    Chapter One

Tynara pulled her heavy coat across her body attempting to keep the frigid winter air off of her delicate skin. The wind was so strong it nearly knocked her over as she made her way through the snow which was almost thigh high now. The inclement weather didn’t stop her from making her way to 16th Street. She would crawl if she had to. She was on a mission and not even the snow would stop her from making it to where she had to go.

The crackling of snow and ice beneath her boots was the only sound that could be heard as she made her way up the block. Under normal circumstances this street would have been full of dope boys, pimps and hookers; but that wasn’t the case tonight. Tonight the street was empty. As she made her way through the slush and ice she saw what she was looking for.

Future! Future, I know you are in there. You might as well bring ya’ ass out or I’m gonna make the whole damn block hot! she called out to the young hustler who was just inside of a doorway of an abandoned building.

Future peeped out from the doorway and watched Tynara slip and slide as she made her way over to where he thought he had successfully concealed himself.

Shit! Did she see me? Future asked his partner in crime Buck.

Yeah my nigga, she saw you and she don’t look happy. Buck laughed.

Buck couldn’t understand why Future would rather spend his time on the streets selling drugs than staying his ass at home with his girl and his kid. Future didn’t have to do this shit. He was in the game for all the wrong reasons. It was as if he did it to prove a point to other people that he was hardcore. Future had a good life, yet he was throwing it all away to chase a little paper and make himself feel big by being a small time hustler. He was in the game to make a name for himself, unlike Buck who did it to keep from starving to death or being homeless.

If I had a girl like Tynara I would never leave the house. Buck thought to himself as he watched the beautiful young woman slip and slide up the walkway trying to catch up to her no good baby daddy.

Tynara was beautiful, young and vivacious. Her caramel complexion was smooth and appealing and accentuated by big doe eyes that were mesmerizing. Her thick frame carried a set a perky breast and other than the weight she had put on in all the right places, you would never know she had given birth. Tynara’s smile was infectious; at least when she used it. Normally her face was twisted in anger at her baby daddy, Future, who wasn’t worth shit and kept up more drama than the good Lord should allow.

Future crept out the back past his other homie, Vonjae, and left Buck to deal with his nagging ass baby momma. What the fuck was Tynara doing out at this time of night anyway? And where was his daughter while Tynara was out searching the hood for him when she should have been at home with their two-year-old daughter Tsai?

Tynara approached the door and Buck blocked her from gaining entrance, even though he really wanted to let her in so he could watch her work Future’s ass over. That was always some comical shit to see. This wasn’t the first time Tynara had come to the trap looking for Future and Buck was sure it wouldn’t be the last either. The two of them had a love-hate relationship. They loved to hate one another. Neither would leave the other one alone, although they knew they should probably go their separate ways. A love like theirs could not be healthy for anyone involved.

I already know his ass is in here Buck! Either get the fuck out of my way or get dealt with. Tynara fussed pushing her way inside of the run-down building.

Shawty, he ain’t here. You are gonna have these nosy muthafuckas calling the cops with all the noise you out here making, Buck said, stalling so his best friend could make his exit out the back.

That’s the shit I am talking about Buck! You know he ain’t right! He should be at home with me and his daughter, not out here trying to act like he is a big boy when he ain’t built like this. I’m harder than he is! Now get the fuck out of my way! she said pushing past Buck.

Buck admired her heart. Only Tynara would have enough balls to come to this side of the hood in the middle of the night to find her man. Either she was crazy or she was in love. She may have been a little of both and that was what attracted Buck to her—her loyalty and her willingness
