Can I get the strawberry and pineapple smoothie, please? one of the young women asks while smiling at me.  I offer a nod and turn to make the sweet concoction for her.  My wife, just to the side of me working on another of the orders we have received from the small group of college ladies, gives me a wry look.  I blush as I continue to make the smoothie.

There you are, I say to her about two minutes later.  That will be five-forty-seven.  She hands me a ten-dollar bill and I open the cash register to make change. 

After taking a sip of her smoothie, the attractive young blonde says to me, Your smoothies are the best, Jordan.

I raise an eyebrow as I hand back her change.  Um, thanks.  Realizing that she read the name on my nametag, I reply, We are happy to have you as a customer. 

The college girl reaches over the cash register and hands me one of the small napkins that were sitting on the front of the counter.  I’ll see you later, okay?  Giggling a little with her friends, she turns and walks away with the group of young women she came with.

What did she give you? Melba asks with a sneer.

A napkin, I reply.

Turn it over, she implores me.  What is on it?  I do as my wife asks before allowing a nervous chuckle.  That girl put her phone number on it, didn’t she? Melba prods.  Did you flirt with her?

There’s nothing there, I lie as I wad up the napkin and stuff it into my pants pocket.

Jordan Andrew Pelton, give me that napkin!  My petite wife reaches around me and tries to get one of her hands into my pocket to retrieve the paper napkin.  I move around a little as we both laugh.  This is the sort of thing that makes me love Melba more every day.  Even though a young, attractive woman handed me her phone number, my wife knows that I would never be unfaithful to her. 

Retrieving the napkin from my pocket, she unfolds it.  Pulling her phone from her pocket, Melba dials in the number scrawled onto the wrinkled paper.  We will see just what this little tart says when I talk to her.

No, honey, don’t, I laugh.  You are so bad.

Well, maybe she needs to learn not to flirt with my husband.  She expects you to call her, Jordan.  That’s not right. 

I reach and take the cell phone from her hand.  Pressing the red button on the screen to stop the call, I say to her, You know that you are the only one for me, right?  There is no reason for stirring anything else up, Mel.  Just let it go.  Smiling at her, I reach for my wife and pull her close to me.  We kiss deeply for a moment before pulling back, realizing that we have another customer waiting for us across the counter.  Melba tosses the napkin into the trash and takes her phone back from me.  We turn and take care of the customer before sitting down on a couple of stools we have behind the bar.

Who would have thought last year when we started this place that it would be so popular?

I nod my head in agreement.  Well, we are just down the street from a huge gym, my love.

But we are inside the mall.  They have to walk all the way over here to buy something.
