    Part 1: Gastric Sleeve Cookbook

100 Bariatric-Friendly and Healthy Recipes for the Gastric Sleeve Surgery

    Introduction

Strength, well-being, and beauty are the most precious gifts you can give to yourself. Blessed are those who have a natural tendency to stay healthy and well for it is our well-being that enables us to achieve what we want in life.

Staying fit is all the more essential in modern times when our sedentary routines are packed with bouts of stress and our recreation involves watching television or going out for another episode of indulgence at a restaurant or a bar. Obesity is on the rise all over the world, particularly in the United States where it affects a staggering 74.6% of Americans.

In such conditions, it is imperative to have a weight loss plan. Gastric sleeve surgery is a drastic but equally efficient step towards your new lifestyle. This type of surgery, combined with the proper diet and fitness plan afterward, has been increasingly recognized as the most efficient and effective way for people to achieve optimum results with weight loss and re-composition. Combining these methods will permanently tone and sculpt your perfect body.

This book has been specifically written for people who have decided to undergo a gastric sleeve operation. It will provide all the information you need to know before the final decision – what is gastric sleeve surgery, how to behave before the big day, and the fastest way to recover with valuable tips on how to adopt some healthy lifestyle habits for the rest of your life. Furthermore, this book is a beautiful collection of 100 recipes written especially for you. These amazingly delicious recipes will guide you through the entire process.

In the initial chapters, you will be taught everything you need to know about the proper nutrition before and after the big surgery. Metabolism is a set of chemical reactions that takes place inside the cells of living organisms. These chemical reactions determine whether the cells live or die, reproduce or regenerate, grow or repair. However, this type of surgery will greatly change your entire metabolism and there are certain rules to be followed until you fully recover. I will lead you through all five phases of your recovery with many different tips you need to know.

This book will also tell you the impact of different aspects of your lifestyle on your health, such as the calories you gain by consuming fast food or the impact of eating dinner late at night.

Finally, nutrition and advice for losing even more weight after you have fully recovered will be discussed in the last chapters. Some say that the real workout starts in the kitchen and that exercise forms 20% of your fitness plan, while a proper diet forms 80% of it. The reality is that you need both; that is, if you want to achieve results which will classify your body composition higher than the average. Since you are reading this book, I presume that you aspire to achieve those results. When you understand and apply both training and effective diet properly, results are assured.

This book is full of useful information. Combined with your doctor’s advice, it can finally give you the results you’re after. Remember, your body is your temple. Taking care of it is not always easy, but it is your responsibility. It takes a little bit of effort and determination, but the end reward is more worthwhile than any other feeling known to people. It enhances just about every area of your life. Enjoy it!

What is the Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

The gastric sleeve surgery is a simple medical procedure that removes parts of the stomach in order to lose weight. Not only will the surgery actually shrink your stomach and physically reduce the amount of food you can eat, it will change hormonal signals between the stomach, brain, and the liver. In simple terms, your appetite and the need for food will be reduced.

After the surgery, you're most likely to lose about 60% of your excess weight. However, this is not the only health benefit of the gastric sleeve surgery. Besides a valuable weight loss, this procedure will reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Furthermore, it will stabilize high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, sleep apnea, and joint pain, as well as increase your physical activity and productivity, and significantly improve your self-confidence.

The percentage of patients who saw improvements

The procedure itself is quite simple – your surgeon will remove most of your stomach except a small, sleeve-shaped part. This will reduce your stomach to approximately 2-5 ounces volume. Naturally, this will preclude you from eating lots of foods and reduce the calorie intake, which will lead to metabolic improvement and weight loss.

Just like every other operation, gastric sleeve surgery is a serious decision and you should talk to your doctor about its advantages, as well as disadvantages and potential risks. Unlike gastric bypass, gastric sleeve surgery doesn't reroute the digestive tract, which is a great advantage of this procedure. It is a permanent shrunken condition that significantly changes your digestive organs and hormones with a short hospital stay. However, this procedure will require some radical changes in your diet and exercise routine.

And, just like every other operation, it includes some possible complications like the gastric leak, the separation of the tissue, ulcers, stomach ache, swallowing disorders, and dumping syndrome. This is why it is extremely important to schedule an informative appointment with your doctor before the final decision. Depending on your age, weight, and medical history, your doctor will evaluate the potential risk and give you proper advice.

Gastric sleeve surgery will help you lose a lot of weight in a short period of time, but you have to keep in mind that, just like with every other weight loss program, at some point you will stop losing weight. This happens because your body reaches something called homeostasis. This is a normal human process that enables the body to maintain the inner environment as a response to some drastic external changes.

After the surgery, your calorie intake will be significantly reduced, which will cause your body to slow down your entire metabolism and preserve the fat storage. In this period, most people start panicking, believing that the operation itself was unsuccessful. This, however, is not true. The final chapters of this book are created to help you increase your metabolic state through some healthy eating habits and regular physical activity. You will learn to trick your body into losing even more weight and hopefully adopt some healthy lifestyle habits for the rest of your life.

Gastric Sleeve Diet Before the Surgery

Gastric sleeve surgery is definitely a big change and requires you to follow the exact diet plan before and after the procedure. Approximately 2-3 weeks before the operation date, your doctor will create a diet plan for you which will basically include:

    - 3 healthy meals per day

    - 60+ grams of proteins per day

    - 2+ liters of water per day

    - meals based on lean meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables

    - increased vitamin intake

    - moderate physical activity

As I said earlier, this period will last anywhere from 2-3 weeks before the scheduled date. However, two days before the operation, you will be asked to drink clear liquids only. The best choice would be fresh fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies. These fluids contain an optimum amount of vitamins and minerals that will give your body the strength to withstand the procedure and the following period. About 24 hours before the operation, you will have to avoid eating and drinking.

Bellow, you will find some amazingly healthy and delicious recipes you can prepare for yourself before the operation. I have collected 20 recipes and divided them between breakfast, lunch, dinner, and healthy snacks in case you get hungry. Enjoy!
