About this ebook

Unhealthy patterns and cycles are the results of a wounded soul that needs to be healed. Life’s challenges can leave us beaten and worn, and the anxiety, worry, stress and other adverse effects associated with the struggles we endure can prevent us from shining like the person we were created to be.
Everyone struggles with issues at some point throughout their lifetime. Having the right attitude, correct approach and proper knowledge to combat challenges are crucial for mental and emotional health.
Disappointments, failures, difficult or painful past experiences, and other forms of hurts create mental blocks which are psychological barriers in our minds. These experiences are associated with unhealthy emotions and then stored within our subconscious for later recall when similar situations arise. These damaging emotions create mental blocks that cause you to believe you are incapable of fulfilling a task and accomplish or do specific activities effectively. Mental blocks can also prevent you from thinking clearly and communicating effectively putting you in a position where you feel trapped, insufficient, unsuccessful, hopeless, stuck, uncertain, indecisive and confused.
A toxic mind will lead to a toxic life and if you are feeling like anything I just described, it’s time to declutter your mind and free yourself from the internal barriers that have been preventing you from achieving your goals.
Those who struggle with mental blocks often live out their dreams in their heads, but very seldom attempt to fulfill it in reality. It is so easy for us to become complacent with the habitual practice of using our mind’s eye to visualize success without bearing the intentions of stepping out to create the success we see in our minds. In some cases, an effort is made to achieve, though not in the area desired, and this can somewhat compensate individuals, masking the fact that they are sabotaging themselves.
So how can you deal with mental blocks? How can you get unstuck and begin to make strides? Mental barriers are not easy to deal with, but they can be broken. If you desire a healthy life you have to acquire a healthy mind and a free spirit.
Join this journey and learn how to gain control of your life by taking control of your mind, understand how wounds from your past have been dictating your life, break free from negative patterns and cycles, and from all the baggage of your past, discover how to get healed from the soul level and give birth to your God-given destiny by using this three-step strategy that God has given me.
A new life awaits you. It’s time to become a better you! Let’s go!

    Introduction

We are created in the image and likeness of God, and there are endless possibilities of what we can do and who we can become, but our surrounding and experiences - life as a whole - have helped to create limitations in our minds through our perception, outlook, thought patterns and belief systems formed by life’s filter.

Let’s face it. Not many of us were born with golden spoons in our mouths.  Life can be rough and challenging, leaving us depressed, weighed down, unfulfilled, lonely, lost, filled with anxiety and feeling empty on the inside creating a lot of baggage for us to carry. Life can hit us hard by surprise and if we are not prepared to face and handle resistance with a positive mindset, life will change us into someone we were not designed to be preventing us from walking into our destiny.

Like any soldier who gets wounded in a war, so too we get wounded in life. Wounds are created through hurts which come to us through many obvious forms. Relationships will deteriorate through lies, deception, jealousy, intimidation, misunderstandings, pride, and so on. People will walk in and out of our lives for good reasons, bad reasons and for no reason, depending on how we look at it. Our perception will always be different from God’s perception until our minds become transformed into His likeness, and the truth lies in seeing things from God’s perspective.

No matter how bad a situation may seem, nothing in our lives happens by mere chance or coincidence for the one who is completely sold out and committed to God. Even if you sincerely made a mistake and stepped outside of God’s will for your life, once you repent, turn and get back in line with God’s Word, He will work all things together for your good.  Everything in life serves a purpose and it is for us to seek an understanding of God’s plan for our lives instead of leaning on our own understanding continually.

Whatever we have gone through in life will either work for us or against us depending on how we choose to view our situation. When we learn to accept the things we cannot change by allowing them to teach us, we will begin to grow as we experience change and gain the courage to face and deal with challenges through God’s strength.  Life is preparing us for our destiny and if we learn to trust God through the good and the bad, we will be able to grasp the lessons that life teaches through our everyday experiences.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us that our issues in life spring forth from our hearts. This means that the quality of life we live is determined by what’s stored in our hearts. Everything we have gone through in life has a direct impact on us and it will point back to a heart issue. When wounds or hurts are not dealt with promptly and in an effective manner, we afflict ourselves as these wounds continue to manifest in our lives at various points causing more pain while increasing damage.  This is a vicious ongoing cycle that many people are not aware of.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life ~ Proverbs 4:23.

Your wounds will control you, dictate your life and block you from your destiny until you learn to deal with them.  Throughout this book, I will be teaching you how to become a better person, the person God intends you to be, using a three-step strategy that the Holy Spirit has given to me. These are the same steps used to transform my own life from anger, fear, shame, low self-esteem, negativity, and lack, to a place of abundance and freedom.

We will first look at Inner Healing which is vital in the transformation of how we perceive things. Here we will discuss wounds and the soul as wounds have a direct impact on our souls, and we’ll also talk about fear and other forms of negative emotions and how they affect us. Then we will look at Personal Development where we will discover our gifts and purpose while dealing with practical ways to improve ourselves by focusing on our strengths while building confidence.  Lastly, we will look at our Spiritual side.  In order for us to look good in the physical, our spirits must first be transformed and connected to God as the physical is a mere manifestation of the spiritual (the spiritual precedes the natural or the physical).

Please read all three parts of this book without skipping any given section as all information shared is important and necessary for complete transformation.

I pray the Holy Spirit will guide you and teach you how to accurately apply these steps to your life so that you will be able to experience the transformation you have been longing for. May your souls be enriched, your understanding enlightened and your minds fruitful to the glory of God, in Jesus’ name.

    Part I

    Inner Healing

    Your wounds serve a purpose

    -1-

    The Soul

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth ~ 3 John 2:2.

The soul is the core essence of who we are.  It is self - that innermost part of our being that portrays our personality. It is said that the word soul is sometimes used interchangeably with the term spirit throughout the Bible as in Psalm 104:29, 2 Corinthians 4:16, Daniel 7:15 and 1 Corinthians 5:5 (see also, 1 Corinthians 16:18; 2 Corinthians 7:1; James 2:26, and examine the similarities of how the word soul is used in other texts such as those listed below).  Our soul then is that intangible, immaterial part of us that cannot be seen with the natural eyes, but it can be felt and observed through our expressions.  The word soul refers to life, and is the seat of life which contains our emotions, intellect, and will.

Our life then is the imitation or reflection of our soul.  We are spirit beings and naturally powerful.  The story of the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 depicts this and demonstrates the power of unity when souls come together for a common purpose.  The people came together to build a tower that could reach heaven and they were serious about doing what we would perceive today as impossible. Their seriousness got God’s attention to the point where He left His throne in heaven to come to earth and observe what they were building to reach into heaven. When God saw their determination, He instituted different languages and scattered them on the face of the earth in order to prevent them from accomplishing the task by working together. What seemed impossible became possible through the power of unity and also by tapping into the power of the soul.

God’s response is found in verse 6; Behold the people is one, and they have all one language, and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Did you get that?  And now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.  This is powerful! We are talking about discovering our true potential and who we really are.

Let me hasten to add that any power or spiritual connection outside of God is illegal and therefore devilish. For you to tap into your fullest potential, you have to get connected to your true source which is God, in order to discover how to walk in your divine destiny and unleash your God-given potential through God. You won’t discover this authentic power through palm reading, astrology, numerology or acquired psychic powers, etc. These powers do exist, but connecting to any source outside of Christ is not only false and demonic, but it is also considered sin in the eyes of God.

When we accept Jesus in our lives as our personal Lord and Saviour, it is important for me to highlight that our souls are not set freed from negative ways of thinking or wrongful patterns of behaviour and habits. What happens is, we become regenerated by the Spirit of God where we receive a new spirit and the gift of eternal life through regeneration, but our minds, will, and emotions must continually be submitted to the Spirit of God in order for us to experience this new way of life.  It takes the direct involvement of our will for our souls to be yielded to God and become transformed through the renewal of our minds.  This is what Paul alluded when he said I die daily, and the things I should do I do not and that which I should not do that I do. It is a continuous process where there is a fight or wrestling taking place daily between the soul and the spirit.

Our soul has a direct impact on our health and our health is a reflection of the condition of our souls. It is God’s will for our souls to prosper and for us to be healthy, but it’s up to us.  Bear with me as we take a further look at a few more characteristics of the soul according to the scriptures, in an effort to deepen your understanding of the term and how it is used. The word soul is used in the following contexts:

    1)  Life

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul ~ Genesis 2:7.

… as her soul was in departing, (for she died) ~ Genesis 35:18.

In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind ~ Job 12:10.

Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me ~ Psalm 119:175.

And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul diedin the sea ~ Revelations 16:3.

    2)  Emotions

And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel ~ Judges 10:16.

And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore ~ 1 Samuel 1:10.

But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn ~ Job 14:22.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance ~ Psalm 43:5.

My God, my soul is cast down within me ~ Psalm 42:5-6.

    3)  Desires

When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after ~ Deuteronomy 12:20.

    4)  Real you (Self)

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul ~ 1 Samuel 18:1.

    5)  Will

So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life ~ Job 7:15.

    6)  In distress

I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul ~ Psalm 142:4.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead.

Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble.

And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant ~ Psalm 143:3, 11, 12.

    7)  Praise

And Mary said, my soul doth magnify the Lord ~ Luke 1:46.

    8)  Delight

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation ~ Isaiah 61:10.

…and let your soul delight itself in fatness ~ Isaiah 55:2.

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles ~ Isaiah 42:1.

    9)  Sin affects our souls

And if a soul sin, and hear the voice of swearing, and is a witness, whether he hath seen or known of it; if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity ~ Leviticus 5:1.

I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee ~ Psalm 41:4.

    10)  Wounds affect the soul

Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them ~ Job 24:12.

    11)  Can be in bondage and delivered

Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword ~ Psalm 17:13.

Keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee ~ Psalm 25:20.

LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit ~ Psalm 30:3.

I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities ~ Psalm 31:7.

He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me ~ Psalm 55:18.

Then called I upon the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech thee, deliver my soul ~ Psalm 116:4.

    12)  Can be healed

I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee ~ Psalm 41:4.

If our souls are not healed, we will remain stuck and limited with what we can accomplish.  We will never feel free, satisfied or fulfilled until our souls are healed and freed from the baggage of our past.

Now that we have acquired basic knowledge about the soul, let us move on to discuss how a broken or wounded soul affects us, hinder our growth and progression by preventing us from operating in our fullest potential, and how to deal with wounds.  See you in the
