About this ebook

Haley had no idea she was walking into the web of a crafty businessman when she agreed to stay with an old friend of her brothers. She had a crush on Evan when she was a kid, and it was soon evident that he had plans beyond letting her sleep in his spare room while she got her life together in a new town and starting a new job. He wanted her in his bed. He said he didn’t want anything else, but it was hard to tell if that was true or not. The way he stared at her, the way his lust seemed uncontrollable in her presence seemed to just draw her in. Maybe it all meant something, but it was impossible to tell. He just kept saying it was an arrangement. The arrangement that she would share his bed and keep him company until either one of them wanted to move on. No promises. No attachments. No strings attached.

    Chapter 1:

Harry picked up the phone with a small sigh. It had been such a long time since he had dialed that number. Frankly, he wondered if he would even get through to the man he was trying to call. He took a deep breath and dialed it. Three rings then voice mail. Evan, this is Harry. Been a long time, I know, but I was wondering if you could help me out with something. I promise it won’t be anything to bad and I’m not asking for money or anything like that. And that was it. He hung up and got back to work, waiting for a response.

It was a couple hours later when Evan’s number appeared on his screen. He answered in a hurry. Hello?

Harry! It’s been too long. What have you been up to?

Oh, I’m just in town for work for a few days, but I needed a favor from you.

Let’s meet for lunch then. Are you free in about an hour? You can pick the place. I’ll meet you there. With that, the meeting was set and Harry headed out of the office he was consulting at to a nearby pizza place. Somehow Evan was already there, climbing out of a black town car and straightening his suit. He walked up to Harry with a grin. Why didn’t you tell me you were in town? We would have done this sooner.

You know how it is. I got busy. We both have. You’ve done well for yourself.

The men walked inside together, Harry carefully looking over his old friend. The suit was expensive. The town car he showed up it couldn’t have been cheap in this city either. I knew you had done well, I wasn’t expecting this well.

What can I say? It turns out I have an eye for business. And business has treated me well. Still, Evan had that same old familiar grin. What was it you needed?

Harry took a deep breath. Do you remember my little sister? Haley?

Evan’s eyes twinkled. Yeah. I remember her. She was a sweet kid. What’s she been up to lately? He seemed like he had picked his words carefully in regards to Haley.

She’s moving to town here. Got a new job as an analyst on Wall Street. But she doesn’t really know anyone. And doesn’t have a place yet. She’ll be staying in a hotel. One that doesn’t cost too much, but is still in a safe place. Do you think you could help her out?

Evan paused for a moment. Tell you what. She can stay with me.

Harry balked. Are you sure? I don’t want either of us to impose.

No. No. You’re not imposing at all. I would love to have the company. I can put her up until she gets enough for an apartment. We all know how expensive places in the city can be. It’ll save her some money and let her get herself a place a lot sooner if she doesn’t have to pay for a hotel. I insist.

I mean. Wow. Thank you, but if you don’t want to do this, you don’t have to. We were just looking for someone to help her learn how to get around this town. This is her first time away from family and I was hoping that she would have someone that she could count on.

Evan gave a grin. Don’t worry. She can count on me. If there’s anyone that can get that Texas girl set up in New York, it’s me. She can stay at my place. I’ve got plenty of room.

Harry smiled. I knew I could count on you. Don’t let her get in your way, but I’m sure she’ll behave.

She was a good kid, and I’m sure she’s a good woman now. Evan picked up the menu and ordered himself some pizza. What company is she going to work for?

This new one Rosenberg and… something? Harry frowned. "I don’t remember
