About this ebook

This is a fast-paced, steamy romance read. Part of a standalone series.

For Yesenia Copeland, life has always been pure and simple. She grew up in a small town with loving parents, who showered her in love and affection. When she graduated high school, Yesenia got her real estate license, moved to a city an hour away, and opened her own real estate company. There she's made a name and life for herself. Life is good… But something is missing. She just can't quite put her finger on it.

Miguel Mancini has lived the past ten years, in Italy, avoiding his mother like the plague. But when his baby sister called him, begging him to come to her wedding, he couldn't say no. Now he's back in his childhood hometown, in Texas, and things are far from perfect. They're pure hell… or are until a blonde bombshell bridesmaid enters his life, making him question how he'll be able to walk away when the wedding is over.

Will Yesenia be able to spot a good thing when it's standing right in front of her? Or will Miguel disappear from her life, leaving behind the possibility of a happily ever after?

    Chapter One

    Ysenia

Leaning back in my office chair, I pinch the bridge of my nose. For hours I have been rapidly clicking away at the keys on my laptop. The seller’s documents weren’t due for another two days; however, I liked to be ahead of the game. It was one of the many reasons my business was successful.

Geeze. Modest much, Yesenia? I groan internally.

    Knock. Knock.

I turn my attention to the open door and find Hayva, my receptionist, standing in the doorway. She points at her watch and smiles.

Lunchtime, Boss, she says sweetly, in her Jamaican accent.

I know, I just need to– She frowns and shakes her head, making me stop mid-sentence. I’ll get back to it after lunch.

Sounds good, she smiles victoriously then turns and walks away.

Hayva Allen has been working for me for the past three years. And every day I have thanked my lucky stars for having hired her. Not only is she amazing at clerical work but she also understands me one-hundred percent. She is more than a receptionist. She’s become a great friend.

Two quick clicks and the document is saved, and I’m closing my laptop. It’ll all be there after lunch. Or so I’m telling myself; otherwise, I’m not leaving the room.

Food! Hayva shouts from the front office.

Yes, Ma’am, I giggle before grabbing my purse and walking out of my office. Hayva is waiting by the door, holding her purse.

I’ll drive, she smiles, dangling her keys. The hairs on the back of my neck stand and my stomach knots. Oh, don’t look at me like that, Boss.

    We could just walk.

Walk? she gasps. Why on Earth would we walk?

So we’d make it there in one piece, I mutter.

    Ha! You’re a funny lady.

Hayva, your driving scares the hell out of me.

It’s the truth. I’d feel safer juggling axes or sticking my head in a lion’s mouth. She swears she passed her driver's license test on the first try. But I think she bribed the guy!

You are just too soft, she rolls her eyes and waves a finger angrily in my direction. I’ll have you know that I haven’t had any accidents in over three months.

Three months, I repeat to myself.

For most drivers, no car accidents in three months is typical; however, Hayva isn’t most drivers. She’s a maniac on the road. Every time I ride with her, I say a silent prayer to the road gods and ask them to let me arrive alive.

You have that look on your face, Hayva grumps.

Hayva, you drive like a blindfolded demolition derby driver!

Her face turns into one of confusion. She cocks her head slightly and shakes her head.

I don’t know what a demolition derby driver is, Ysenia. What is dis’ derby?

I can’t help but smile at her accent as it starts to pour out heavily between her lips. Any time she’s super excited, angry, or sad her accent is thicker than butter. It’s the cutest thing.

You’re so cute, Hayva, I smile and then wink at her before heading outside.

Hayva follows me outside. She’s muttering something but I’m not paying too much attention. I’m busy fishing my keys out of my purse so I can lock the door.

Found them! I call out, dangling them out in front of her. She looks unamused. You’re no fun.

Says the woman who is talking about blowing things up and derbys.

Now it makes sense. She’s upset with me because I didn’t explain what a demolition derby driver was. Hayva and her family moved to the United States, Texas specifically, about five years ago. She’s worked hard to learn everything she could so when there is something she doesn’t know, she feels stupid–  which she most definitely isn’t.

Hayva, I sigh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to poke fun at you.

Yes, you did. You and your American ways, she crosses her arms in front of her chest and turns her head from me.

You know you can’t stay mad at me forever.

I can see a smile tugging at her lips. I wrap my arms around her and lay my head on her shoulder.

But you love me, Havya! You really do, I giggle. She finally breaks. She wraps her arms around me and laughs.

    You drive me crazy.

We drive each other crazy, I remind her.

I guess so, she admits. Now, lock the door so we can go eat.

Yes, ma’am, I let go of her and then dramatically salute her. She rolls her eyes and chuckles softly.

What is this derby? she asks, letting her curiosity get the best of her. I grin as I lock the door.

Men race around hitting each other’s cars with their car.

What? she gasps. Her eyes are the size of saucers. They do this... why?

For fun... Money... I honestly don’t know why, I laugh and toss my keys back into my purse. They just do.

I should become a derby driver, she declares.

I’m not sure if she is joking or serious. Her face is hard to read. If she is serious then she has a great career
