About this ebook

It's history!
It's what we can still learn from today.
Four stories of obscure Canadians come alive as they are told in the first person. An incident that was recorded as happening on the prairie in the late 1800s is told as a humor piece. Letters found in a local museum are turned into an overview of the tragedy that was World War I. In our third chapter, we remember the efforts of Donald Carruthers to found the Manitoba Agricultural Museum. We end with The Jack Kitteringham Story...the tale of an ordinary young man sent from small-town Manitoba to Hong Kong, just before the Japanese attacked.
Illustrated with vintage photographs, this is a collection suitable for anyone interested in history...or simply anyone who enjoys a unique story about real people.

    Introduction

I wrote these short pieces from characters and incidents of local history.

The Thing Bout Worrin was written for Seniors’ Day at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum. It details an incident that is recorded as happening on the prairies just outside of Gladstone.

Letters From the Front was taken from the war letters of Jack and James McAskill. It was written and performed throughout our local school division in honor of the 100th anniversary of Armistice. 1918 - 2018.

Donald Carruthers and the Founding of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum was created for the 60th Anniversary of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum.

If you want to watch some videos of these pieces being performed at various venues they are available on my website.

    Letters From the Front

My friends, it’s war out there in Europe! Great Britain is under constant attack by her wicked enemy, Germany! As part of the great and mighty British empire, Canada MUST also do its part in this noble struggle! Therefore, we urgently need brave men to fight on the front line! And not only men! We also need women to work as nurses and housekeepers! So, I ask the men sitting before me in the audience today. Are you willing to do what you know is right, are you willing to do your duty for your King and
