More commonly mistake, it is typically assumed that slashing calories is the way to go.
Deficient calorie diets should work in theory. The problem is that they just don’t. In fact, they almost universally fail miserably.
There are better ways to achieve permanent weight loss.
Intermittent Fasting
is another method, while when done correctly it can yield positive results more often than not. The attempt ends up instead being a low-calorie diet. This section will elaborate on why these things don’t seem to work for most people.
Excessive Cardio Sessions
Have you ever been on an Internet forum for weight loss and saw multiple discussion threads where people, mostly women, are in distress because they did TWO hours of cardio a day for a week and failed to lose an ounce? I was totally motivated one day, and I thought that I was born to run, I was wrong! Some of this frustration also exists for people while doing half of that time on their favorite cardio machine or out on a running track. I feel their pain, as I was once one of those people. Going to the gym every day, watching my calories (even under-eating) for months on end only to step on the scale and see zero weight loss.
Too often, popular culture gives us this idea that if we do an excessive amount of cardio, we will eventually burn off all of our stored fat and look rail thin. I know, and lots of other people know that this isn’t the truth—even if we secretly think so and continue trying the trend. Because, you know—what if it works the next time we work? It usually never does (I tried this, every year over and over again with no results)
What does excessive cardio do? Raises stress levels. When pressure is increased, a pesky (vital) hormone called Cortisol is released.
Cortisol signals this message to your body:
A bear is chasing you, and you need more energy to fight this attack.
Overeating and increased appetite
Even if your appetite doesn’t increase, your body fat will stubbornly cling for dear life because it fears a shortage of food energy.
One caveat, for some people the conventional cardio method might work. But the people for whom these works have an entirely separate hormonal profile from the people who work hard at the gym to no avail.
Most individuals who succeed with this don't seek out further weight loss tips because it just seems that simple to them. But of course, many others are left searching for better answers. More on that in the section entitled Is Cardio Necessary?
