Instead of doing the things which I, as a self-respecting dominatrix should be doing—flexing my whips, trying on new leather or latex, testing my nipple clamps—I was in the library. Reading a book.

Hugo had just referred a new client to me. Neil Kiniback. Neil was into being tied up and was willing to pay a pretty penny for the privilege. But Neil didn’t want the usual bondage—he wanted Japanese ritual rope bondage. So, there I was, reading up on the history and practice of Shibari. There was another school called Kinbaku, but I found the distinctions confusing.

Shibari bondage involves tying intricate patterns of rope or ropes to restrain the subject, often with ritualistic overtones. It originated as a means to restrain criminals and prisoners of war. Sometimes these victims, once tied, were put on public display, occasionally being suspended in mid-air. After World War II, the practice began to become eroticized.

Back in my dungeon, I decided to apply my new-found knowledge on myself. I put on a loose one-piece exercise outfit, no underwear underneath. Then I knotted two pieces of rope together and put the knot behind my neck. In front, I wove the two strands into an ‘X’-shape which I pulled into a knot just below my throat. I repeated the process down my front every eight inches or so until I had a repeating crisscross pattern.

Then I pulled both of the trailing ends of the ropes under my crotch and up my back. It was tight but not too tight. I gave the ropes a gentle, and extremely pleasant, tug.

On my back, I pulled the ropes up and through the first knot I’d tied behind my neck and made another knot just below the first knot. Then I pulled one strand around to the right in front, just above my breast and threaded it through the slack between the first and second knots. I copied this procedure with the other strand to the left.

I repeated this process, knot-by-knot, down my chest—it made a particularly nice pattern around my breasts—and continued down my torso. This created more and more pleasant sensations the closer I got to my crotch. When I finished, I looked in the mirror. For a first effort, it was remarkably symmetrical!
