For a man, choosing a female wrestler requires a great deal of care.

First, she must be willing to lose, but, secondly, she must hate to lose. Third, she must be physically attractive and sexy. Nice to look at, but not pretty. She should have breasts, but they shouldn’t be too large. Fourth, she must be strong enough to wrestle. Fifth, she should have personality. And sixth, she should be professional. Punctuality is what makes the world go ‘round.

Yesterday, I’d come into the Sexy-B wrestling emporium to submit my membership application to Sarah Boulton, the gym’s owner. She had read it carefully, then looked up and favored me with a smile. Arthur, she’d said, male members have the right to work out and to watch exhibition bouts. But if you want to wrestle with one of our female wrestlers, you have to pay a fee for each bout.

I understand.

Sarah took me on a tour. There was a boxing ring, a smallish room with grey mats on the floor, and a mock apartment.

I shook my head at the mock apartment. Looks dangerous.

Not really, said Sarah. Everything is padded.

Next up was a slightly larger room with red and blue mats. Why do you want to join the gym? asked Sarah.

Physical fitness, stress relief.

Did you want to wrestle?

I nodded. That’s why I came here. I’m already a member of the downtown fitness gym.

What type of wrestling?

Unrestricted.

She narrowed her eyes. You’ll have to get the consent of the woman you’ll be wrestling with.

I flashed my most charming smile. Of course. I liked that Sarah was looking out for her girls.

She smiled back. Have you given any thought to the type of woman you’d like to wrestle?

I nodded and gave her my criteria.

By the time I’d listed my sixth requirement, Sarah’s eyebrows had tracked significantly higher up her forehead. Most members have only one or two requirements.

I hope you have someone for me.

Sarah pulled out a list. It looked like a roster of some sort: names and contact information. I think that Didi would be the best fit for you. Did you want me to set up an initial bout for you? A sparring bout is half price.

I didn’t care about the money, but Sarah didn’t have to know that. Sure, I’d said. I had given Sarah cash for a one-year’s membership, and for the sparring bout.

Today, another woman was in the lobby when I entered. Sarah got up from behind the reception desk and indicated me. Didi, this is Arthur, our newest member.

Didi was beautiful, but hard, certainly not pretty. Wide cheekbones and expressive eyes. In her tight blouse and skirt I could see that she had a figure. And muscles! Nice hips.
