    Chapter 1 – The Meaning behind Private Label Sales

    When a product is invented, the first thing we want to do is sell it. That being said, this is often much easier said than done. Selling a product on your own is not only time consuming but it takes a great deal of work. If you’re not familiar with the market and how it works, it’s often easier to simply allow a private label sell your product for you. Another option is to actually purchase items in bulk and sell them on your own. We will get into more information with many different options later on.

    That being said, private labeling can involve many different options. Private labeling specifically can either help sell your own product, or as mentioned earlier, you can also sell other items that you’ve purchases in bulk under a new names. While some individuals may not necessarily feel comfortable with this, it’s often the easiest and best option for companies and inventors who produce generic products and they’re looking for others to help sell their items. When you’re labeling a product, whether it’s your own product or a generic product, this can also be referred to as branding. Branding simply refers to a product that will distinguish one product from another. When you have an item or product that you want to do, what you want to do is brand this item to separate it from other products. You want to show the world that your product is not only different from other products that are being sold online and in stores, but you want to show them that your product is the best.

    By branding your item, you can find different ways and different marketing strategies to show the difference between your item and others out there and on the market. You never want your product to seem ordinary or just like everything else out there because then people will not want to buy them. If people view your product as different, due to different branding strategies, they will then want to buy your product over others even if in all reality, they may be the same product. Separate is the key when you’re looking for ways to make others purchase your product over different products on the market.

    If you’re an inventor, you must understand that it may be very difficult if you’re trying to sell your product to large companies or mass merchants. Large companies most likely will not want to purchase items from companies that are unknown and small. If you think about it, when mass merchants purchase items from outside vendors they are taking a risk. The risk presented here is that the unknown company may possibly be unreliable. That being said, if you’re willing to put in the work and take the risk, and you really want to have your product sold by a large company, it’s work a shot.

    The worst thing that can happen is that the company will say no. If this happens, and a company rejects your offer, this is when small companies with products often turn to private label sales. Don’t feel like you’ve failed when a large company turns you down. Know that private labeling is always an option should your offer be rejects. In fact, private labeling may even be more beneficial for a small company that’s looking to promote their own product. With private labeling, you will have the confidence and hands on experience. You will know what you’re selling and you will have that complete ownership over how it’s sold and how the company runs, obviously this would not be the case if you do happen to sell your product to a mass merchant. Once that product is sold, they will be able to do whatever they want with it.

    A third option would be to find a company that may not be as large as the initial company and sell your product to this company. This company will most likely be much large than your company and they will be able to turn around and sell your products under their name to a large merchant.
