Dropshipping Shopify E-commerce $12,000/Month Beginners Guide To Make Money Selling On Amazon, eBay, Blogging, Social Media Marketing For Business, Passive Income And SEO - Tim Murphy
Introduction
The entrepreneur who wants to use the technique of drop shipping has as a main objective to get rid of one of the most important efforts that are required to those who sell on the web: fulfillment, or the processing of the order. To start with the trading, it is not necessary to have a certain stock or store. All that is needed is an E-commerce site and the affiliation of this website with a dropshipper. These companies act as intermediaries in the sale and purchase of products, allowing for more economic transactions for both customers and suppliers. The dropshippers carry out the fulfillment for the entrepreneur, whose only labor is to supply the products for sale and to place them in his website.
The first step, and before thinking of opening the account with a dropshipper, is to think about what type of business it will develop. This will depend on the type of products that will be sold, the niche that will be occupied and, above all, the images that represent a potential customer and an expectation for the product .
With these concepts clear, we can move forward to choose a platform for e-commerce. It is important to note that this choice depends very much on whether an entrepreneur wants to associate himself with dropshippers or if he wants to sell his products directly. Most online stores are already located on one or more e-commerce platforms, so it is important for any entrepreneur to choose a platform that will not cause him any disruption of the trading process. In other words, the technology should not be a hindrance for those who have decided to work with dropshippers.
The first step is to obtain the account with a dropshipper, by choosing among hundreds of different suppliers that deliver products from all over the worl
Be careful with the procedure of signing up with a dropshipper. It is important to check the reputation and, above all, how much information is supplied by any company on its website. The dropshippers periodically claim that the shipment of products (which may be represented in pictures) are made directly from their warehouses to those of their suppliers. This is only a promise, but not always an accomplishment. It is important to check that a company really delivers products.
In order to start the first sales, it is necessary to have a product catalog and, perhaps, some photos of the products. If possible, hire a professional photographer and pay attention to the quality of the images so that they attract customers. It is also important to be very selective about what will be sold on your platform.
With these and more, this book will help to choose a good dropshipper and to start this business in the best way.
Understanding Drop Shipping
Before you start a drop shipping business, the most basic thing you’ll need to know is what the business is all about and who the major players involved are. So, without further ado, let’s begin.
What is Drop Shipping?
Drop shipping is a type of supply chain management. It is a concept wherein retailers, wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers do not stock or warehouse goods. Instead, products are directly shipped from the seller to the customer without any sort of physical intervention by the retailer.
The Drop Shipper vs. The Retailer
While many companies operate as both drop shippers and retailers at different times, they still differ in who performs which function. The drop shipper is the label under which a retailer operates. In contrast, the retailer is the one who holds, stocks and sells products.
Drop Shippers vs. Wholesalers
Wholesalers are companies that sell products and ship them all over the world to retailers. Drop shippers do not wholesale their items directly to other retailers or individual customers. Instead, they work with manufacturers directly for high volume orders.
Drop Shippers vs. Brokers
Brokers match buyers and sellers. Brokers have no physical involvement in the transaction, which means they make their profit from buying and selling on behalf of their clients. Most brokers buy products in bulk and sell them to retailers at a higher price, which allows them to earn a profit from the markup as opposed to the retail markup. In contrast, drop shippers don’t buy wholesale stock and don’t sell it on for profit at all.
Drop Shippers vs. Resellers
Resellers purchase items in bulk and then sell them on at a higher price. They have a very close relationship with a manufacturer and usually become an authorized reseller of certain products. In contrast, drop shippers do not purchase products in bulk at all – instead, they deal directly with manufacturers.
So now that you’re clear on the difference between drop shippers and other types of retailers, it’s time to learn how to find the best drop shipper for your business.Drop Shipping: Role or Service?
Although you may have heard the term ‘drop shipper’ bandied about quite freely, the truth is that no such term actually exists in this field. There is no one person or entity who can be a drop shipper. Anyone in the supply chain – the wholesaler, the retailer or even the manufacturer – can be the drop shipper.
If the manufacturer you are working with ships the goods directly to the customer, once you’ve placed an order with them, the manufacturer ‘drop ships’ on your behalf. In the same way, another retailer also has the capability to drop ship for you: although, in this case, your profit margin may not be as high. A retailer’s pricing is going to be higher than a wholesaler’s or a manufacturer’s.
This brings us to the fact that merely because an entity says that it is a ‘drop shipper’ doesn’t mean that they will offer you wholesale pricing. All it means is that the business is willing to ship the products to you. Therefore, if you want to get the best possible pricing, you need to ensure that you work directly with a manufacturer or wholesaler.
The Players
To understand the major players involved in drop shipping, you need first to understand what is meant by the term ‘supply chain’. The term basically means the course followed by a product from inception to manufacturing to the customer. Those who look at the supply chain in detail state that the supply chain of a product actually begins from the basic materials such as rubber and oil that are mined to create it. For the purposes of this book, we need only look at the players involved in the drop shipping supply chain.
Manufacturers – The ones who create the product are the manufacturers. They don’t generally sell to the public directly but do sell their product to retailers and wholesalers in bulk quantities.
The most inexpensive way to buy products to sell them to the public is to go to the manufacturers. However, many of them have minimum requirements for purchase that you’ll need to satisfy. Also, you will need to do the stocking and shipping when you sell the products to your customers. That is why it is generally easier and more cost-effective to buy the products from wholesalers.
Wholesalers – The ones who buy the products from the manufacturers, increase the price by a small margin and then sell the products to the retailers are known as wholesalers. Not all of them have minimum requirements when it comes to purchases, and even if they do, those requirements are fairly easy for you to meet.
A wholesaler will not generally limit itself to one manufacturer, but instead, they buy and stock products from many different manufacturers. However, it does limit itself to a specific niche. For example, a clothing wholesaler will not purchase and sell cellular phones. Most of these companies only deal in wholesale and don’t sell to the public.
Retailers – One who sells the products to the public after marking up the price is known as a retailer. Therefore, if you have a drop shipping agreement with a wholesaler or manufacturer and you sell the products to the customers, you are a retailer.
How Drop Shipping Works
Now that we’ve taken a look at the players in this chain let’s see how the whole process works. To make this easy for you to understand, I’ll create an example using a hypothetical store called Electronics Showroom which is an online entity that sells electronics such as laptops and cell phones to the public. Electronics Showroom has a drop shipping agreement for its products with a wholesaler that I’ll call Wholesale Electronics.
Below is an example of how the process will work.
1. Electronics Showroom receives an order from the customer.
Mr. Smith places an online order for a laptop via Electronics Showroom’s online store. The order is approved. This is what happens next. Both Mr. Smith and Electronics Showroom receive emails confirming the order. The store’s software usually generates the email confirmation automatically. When Mr. Smith checks out, his payment is captured by the store’s payment software, which then deposits the payment into Electronics Showroom’s bank
