In the first story, "Quick on a Fairy's Wings", Aismere is the Princess of the Fairyborn Nation. After discovering the theft of one of the Fairies' most important talismans, the Northern Light, Aismere is forced to go after the thief.

The second story, "An Assassin's Car", follows Jack, an assassin hired to kill a high value witness and his mistress. Jack is forced to make a tough decision when he discovers that the mistress has a child.

In the third story, "Alier", a Water Hunter named Alier goes on a journey through the World Desert toward the ruins of New York. Not long after her departure, Alier is confronted by another Water Hunter named Hiliis Rohs about her risky behavior.

The fourth story, "A Red Truck and Some Hope", follows Mike Whillemy, a depressed veteran whose wife and kids were killed. Mike receives an opportunity to rediscover hope from a complete stranger in a red truck.

The last story, "Into the Hell Shroud", dives into the story of Tyms Sig, the Captain of the Elven Queen's High Guard. Tyms is summoned back to the Elven capital city of Kporum Brim to receive a mission from the Queen. The mission requires him to return to the one place he swore he never would.
