When I wrote RETURN TO DREAMER SHORES, the intent was to close up loose threads left behind by the compilation DREAMER SHORES. I did achieve that, but along the way some characters showed up in RETURN TO DREAMER SHORES that began to make it clear Breah and the world of DREAMER SHORES belonged as part of a larger context of stories I’d been working on. However, it also became clear some story still needed to be told before I could bridge the gap between projects.

While the RETURN TO DREAMER SHORES brought Breah the resolution she needed to work towards a happy ever after, it’s become clearer to me she had a few personal battles left to struggle with before solidly achieving it. So, RETURN TO DREAMER SHORES is more of a middle act happy-ever-after-for-now scenario, while this novelette puts that happy ever after scenario to the test and sees if it is meant to last.

Also, I really wanted to get deeper into Breah’s character. She came out of a desire to try a character who seemed more full of reckless and abandon my nature. However, the more I worked with her, I sensed the character only appeared that way – and was driven to her actions for a reason. This novelette allowed me to make that examination of character and revealed that only part of her character showed up in her story so far.

CHAPTER ONE

As the calendar turned toward year’s end, this would be Breah’s first real holiday season in Dreamer Shores. A year ago, she’d been too caught up in trying to escape her past that the festivities, especially from right before Christmas past the New Year, went by in a blur. She determined that this year would not be the same.

After all, this would be her daughter’s first holiday season, and her first holiday being with Olly exclusively. She knew she wasn’t ready to make a marriage commitment yet, and Olly didn’t want to rush her.
