    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    ###

    AUTHOR’S NOTE

With DREAMER SHORES, I ventured into new territory as an author. This served as my first attempt at serialized web fiction trying to create the idea of a soap opera on the printed page, in small installments similar to the radio days. I found it to be challenging, and even when I pre-plotted out things the characters tended to take me down ways I never thought of until doing the final typing.

By the time I reached installment four, I realized things about its style didn’t lend itself to doing the short serial format. This included the incorporation of Breah and her poetic song lyrics. Also, the story wasn’t driving much in readership even with easy to find links and a feed on the main SHANNON MUIR’ INFINITE HOUSE OF BOOKS page. Looking at all those factors, I decided to collect these four episodes – of which only the first three previously appeared on the web – for readers to enjoy on a device they choose, in a style and time of their convenience.

Thank you for taking this journey with me, and I hope you enjoy the story.

EPISODE ONE – Welcome to Dreamer Shores

Breah looked down at her gas gauge. The tank showed dangerously close to empty, and nothing familiar showed in sight. She’d packed up with very little - just a few clothes, her cell phone with an e-reader packed with books, and Breah’s prized acoustic guitar - and completely left her old life behind. Breah tired of not living up to other people’s hopes or expectations. They wouldn’t let her be who she knew she needed to be, but instead wanted to mold her into whom they desired she should be.

She’d done well in school, loved reading books and studying whatever she could learn. Breah really didn’t feel she needed more in her life right now, but others around her had different ideas. She knew she could make it on her own given the chance, and now felt compelled she’d need to make her own chance happen or it would never come to pass.

Breah scanned the road signs ahead to see if there’d be anyplace she could get off and maybe find some gas at least. She didn’t know the area at all.

The only sign that stood out to her read: DREAMER SHORES, Next Exit.

Breah didn’t have any idea what Dreamer Shores, but it was either go find out or be stranded on the side of the road.

She really didn’t prefer the latter option.

Breah pulled off the highway to head to Dreamer Shores. She thought it wouldn’t be long until she found something, but first came several miles alongside the ocean coast with only a public beach.

She wanted so desperately to stop and see what everyone was doing. Maybe she’d meet some new friends among those playing beach volleyball or playing in the sand. However, there didn’t seem to be resources there.

Yet, if she didn’t stop, Breah might run out of gas and then be stuck struggling for help who knew where.

She decided it would be safer to pull off and see if anyone could give good leads or advice, even if it didn’t feel comfortable to her.

Breah feared meeting new people. It took a lot for her to just walk away from all she knew, that’s why so much didn’t come with her. At some point, people probably would find her. She just didn’t want to make it easy for them.

After all, everyone around her already tried to control her life. Breah wanted to live her own dreams.

Breah remembered how it all began.

She’d walked down the busy nighttime street, hoping to get lost in the crowd. That definitely was a plus when one wanted to disappear. She’d worked hard to set everything up to make it look like someone abducted her, and hoped the effort would keep them looking long enough for her to completely slip away. The only giveaway might be that her
