AUTHOR’S NOTE FOR THE COLLECTION
Dreamer Shores and the character of Breah was originally conceived as an experiment to create a location and a main character whose life I discovered as I also discovered the location along with her, as I als experimented with a web serial storytelling format. However, as time passed, I came back to my initial focus of character-centric storytelling and really wanted to know what made Breah tick. This resulted in two follow-up novelettes, as well as a mini serial short on Goodreads called Whispers of Dreamer Shores
. This collection brings all those stories together – Whispers of Dreamer Shores,
DREAMER SHORES, RETURN TO DREAMER SHORES, and MYSTERIES IN DREAMER SHORES – in the chronological order they are meant to be read.
Breah and her friends may appear in other works of mine going forward, but this collection comprises the complete DREAMER SHORES series of stories in one collection. Thank you for coming on the adventure.

WHISPERS OF DREAMER SHORES
Breah tended to check out local city information for various conventions that came into town. She met the most interesting people that way, which often in turn became people she knew well into the night. Also, it presented the least risk for commitment and allowed her to be exposed to much without having to travel too far from home. Breah did like seeing the world though, and hoped to someday do more.
Her parents kept trying to get her to spend more time with the son of people they knew. She didn't like him at all. In the old days, she'd have thought maybe they were attempting to arrange a marriage, but that wasn't something her family would do. Maybe they just wanted to see her out more, though that didn't make any sense, because Breah often was. She just did it her way.
As she walked through the lobby of this hotel, she noticed it hosted a photographer's conference. This could be either very dangerous, very interesting, or very boring. She'd just need to find out what type of photographers they were.
She headed for the hotel bar, a very likely place to find people mixing and mingling on evenings like this after everything else wrapped.
She noticed a young man off by himself at one end of the bar, an unassuming sort with glasses and an average build. These types of men usually proved to be the easiest to get to know, and the most likely to be agreeable, since they weren't often seen as dating material. He also traveled with a camera case, so she deduced he must be one of the photographers getting together for this little gathering.
While Breah definitely wanted a date, she didn't want the commitment. The man she'd wanted to spend the rest of her life with no longer lived, while her parents kept trying to pressure her to fill the void in her life with someone they approved of.
Little did they understand that the ache for love and compassion in her life longed to be filled before that, because they'd never given it. That's why she'd sought it in others, and been hurt by others she trusted. Breah vowed to never be hurt that way again; her life would be lived on her terms.
Breah took the empty seat at the bar next to the young man.
You didn't even ask if it was taken,
he told her.
It doesn't look like it's taken, and you didn't appear to be waiting for anyone.
She took the lead to extend her hand to him.
Name's Breah. What's yours?
He didn't hesitate to return the handshake, and did so tenderly.
Prescott Hamill. I'm a nature photographer. What is your favorite subject, Breah?
Breah realized Prescott just assumed her to be a fellow photographer at the convention. It took her a beat to figure out how to respond.
Breah decided to answer honestly.
Well, I'm not that kind of artist,
she admitted. I'm a musician, actually.
Really? I have to tell you, I've not been motivated to talk to anyone tonight because they're all just other photographers here in the bar,
Prescott admitted. What brings you here in the middle of all this?
Just looking for someone to create beautiful music for an evening with, nothing more.
Breah knew how blunt that explanation came off, yet at the same time hoped it would have enough of a sexy subtlety to lure this Prescott Hamill to being more open with her, maybe share his room with her.
I'm not sure how beautiful it would be. I'm not that experienced a musician,r really. More accurately, I mean at all.
Breah believed she read Prescott's meaning.
Would you like to learn?
she asked him. I'm not opposed to giving private lessons. And before you ask, I don't charge. I'm not in that kind of business.
Breah wondered if the shy photographer would take her up on the offer. He wouldn't be the first person she'd had to coach, as it were. Sometimes, those nights proved the most fun.
I think I would like that,
Prescott admitted. And I can teach you a few things as well about photography.
Breah wasn't sure if Prescott really understood what she had meant.
It would be far easier for us to share information in a more private setting. Can I recommend somewhere for us to meet?
Breah started to believe that Prescott did understand and discreetly wanted to give his hotel room information.
Certainly,
Breah encouraged him.
Prescott scribbled something on a cocktail napkin and gave it to Breah. It was a hotel name, a room number and a time.
Meet me at this location tonight,
he told her.
Breah put the napkin in her purse.
I'll be there. Count on it.
At the appointed time, Breah went to the hotel given to her on the napkin. She asked the desk to call up to Prescott Hamill's room, which he'd written down for her. He came down to meet her and took Breah up to his room.
As Breah first entered his room, she saw some photographic prints spread out on the hotel room desk. The prints depicted a beach with incredible, stunning views.
Where is that place?
she asked Prescott, forgetting for the moment why she'd even come.
It's a beach a few hours from here, a bit off the main highways but well worth the visit. They call it Dreamer Shores. For me, it's one of the most photo-worthy places I've been so far in my career. Maybe you should visit someday.
Breah looked from one photo to the next, getting lost in the idea that maybe someday she might escape this town and life and start over somewhere new... maybe in a place like Dreamer Shores.

DREAMER SHORES - AUTHOR’S NOTE
With DREAMER SHORES, I ventured into new territory as an author. This served as my first attempt at serialized web fiction trying to create the idea of a soap opera on the printed page, in small installments similar to the radio days. I found it to be challenging, and even when I pre-plotted out things the characters tended to take me down ways I never thought of until doing the final typing.
By the time I reached installment four, I realized things about its style didn’t lend itself to doing the short serial format. This included the incorporation of Breah and her poetic song lyrics. Also, the story wasn’t driving much in readership even with easy to find links and a feed on the main SHANNON MUIR’ INFINITE HOUSE OF BOOKS page. Looking at all those factors, I decided to collect these four episodes – of which only the first three previously appeared on the web – for readers to enjoy on a device they choose, in a style and time of their convenience.
Thank you for taking this journey with me, and I hope you enjoy the story.

DREAMER SHORES - EPISODE ONE – Welcome to Dreamer Shores
Breah looked down at her gas gauge. The tank showed dangerously close to empty, and nothing familiar showed in sight. She’d packed up with very little - just a few clothes, her cell phone with an e-reader packed with books, and Breah’s prized acoustic guitar - and completely left her old life behind. Breah tired of not living up to other people’s hopes or expectations. They wouldn’t let her be who she knew she needed to be, but instead wanted to mold her into whom they desired she should be.
She’d done well in school, loved reading books and studying whatever she could learn. Breah really didn’t feel she needed more in her life right now, but others around her had different ideas. She knew she could make it on her own given the chance, and now felt compelled she’d need to make her own chance happen or it would never come to pass.
Breah scanned the road signs ahead to see if there’d be anyplace she could get off and maybe find some gas at least. She didn’t know the area at all.
The only sign that stood out to her read: DREAMER SHORES, Next Exit.
Breah didn’t have any idea what Dreamer Shores, but it was either go find out or be stranded on the side of the road.
She really didn’t prefer the latter option.
Breah pulled off the highway to head to Dreamer Shores. She thought it wouldn’t be long until she found something, but first came several miles alongside the ocean coast with only a public beach.
She wanted so desperately to stop and see what everyone was doing. Maybe she’d meet some new friends among those playing beach volleyball or playing in the sand. However, there didn’t seem to be resources there.
Yet, if she didn’t stop, Breah might run out of gas and then be stuck
