Annabelle leaves her boyfriend Sam’s house late one night, dressed in her skimpy schoolgirl lingerie to drive home. The night is dark and the road is lonely, her car breaks down with no mobile signal and her battery is running low. She’s left to sit in the cold car alone with only a light jacket to cover her.

Her mind plays tricks on her as she waits for daybreak. She thinks of all the horror movies she’s seen and imagines madmen appearing from the trees and attacking her. A car pulls up behind her and a dark figure knocks on the window. It could be anyone but luckily for Annabelle it’s a police officer.

As they wait in his car for the tow truck, after his stressful night, the officer needs a sexual release and Annabelle’s state of undress is the catalyst. When he can’t hide his arousal any longer Annabelle decides to thank him properly for saving her.

Whilst waiting for the tow truck they use the police car to explore each other’s desires, parked up on the side of the dark lonely road with only the cars headlights to guide them.

I leave my boyfriend’s house at midnight to drive home. It’s a 30 minute drive through a couple of villages, with one stretch of country road which will be deserted at this time of night.

I hate driving this route at night when I’m alone; it reminds me of all the creepy horror movies I’ve seen. Just as I leave the village and join the country road my car starts to shudder.

I slow down and pray I can nurse the car long enough to reach the next village and call for help.

I make it round the last bend onto the part of road I know is straight for about a mile. I only manage a few hundred yards when the engine splutters and dies.

I check the fuel gauge; there’s half a tank of petrol left.

I turn the ignition over but there’s nothing, not even a flicker.

I reach for my phone full of hope, only to find I have no reception. I knew it would be almost impossible to get a signal on this stretch of road.

I flick on the cabin light and reach for the torch I keep in the passenger door, it isn’t there. I remember Sam borrowing it a few weeks ago; but obviously he didn’t put it back.

I try my phone again, still no reception and the battery is running low. I turn on battery saving mode as a precaution; who knows how long I’ll be stuck here.

If I have any hope of getting the car started, I need the torch on my phone to look at the engine.

If I have any hope of calling for help I need to walk until I find reception. I’m on a road with no street lights; I need a torch to see where I’m going.

I’m stuck either way.

I reach into the glove compartment and take out my phone charger in the vain hope that plugging it in will give the battery a charge. If I can get some charge onto my phone I’ll be able to decide whether to call for help or look at the engine. But of course as the engine is dead nothing happens when I plug it in.

I let the situation sink in, hoping for some inspiration.

It’s gone midnight on a pitch black cloudy night.

I’m stuck alone on an empty country road.
