Introduction
For many of you, I can imagine that when you first read the title of this book you assumed that it was about relationships. Well, you are absolutely right! However, I am not going to talk about how to avoid dangerous romantic relationships, how to get out of them, or even how to find the love of your life. Nope. Not in this book! This book is about identifying unhealthy relationships and circumstances that are interrupting, interfering, or hindering God’s plan for your life. These are called the distracting factors in our lives.
When you look up the word distract or distraction in the dictionary, it is defined as something that takes your attention away from what you are supposed to be doing.
––––––––
So, my question to you is, what in your life have you allowed to take your attention away from doing what you’re supposed to do, or better yet, what God has called you to do?
––––––––
In this book you will find biblical stories about great men who allowed themselves to be distracted by love (or in most cases lust), the circumstances they faced, and the downfall or death it caused some of them. These men allowed the beauty or enticing speech of a woman to detour them from who they were called to be and what they were anointed to do. It is my sincere desire that while reading each chapter, you place yourself right in the story, right in their position, and do a self-evaluation to discover if you have found yourself compromising who you are for something or someone.
––––––––
There is a term which serves as the common theme in these stories. It is called Hedonism. Hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure or self-indulgence. Those who practice this believe that there are only two motivators of human action; pleasure and pain. They feel that decisions should only be made to further our pleasurable experiences and minimize or completely eliminate our painful ones. We will see in each one of these stories how these men went to great lengths to pursue pleasure or avoid pain, no matter how great the cost.
––––––––
Have you unknowingly practiced hedonism in your life? Do you find yourself always pursuing pleasurable experiences in order to avoid painful ones?
––––––––
My goal in writing this is to help someone avoid dangerous pitfalls which
