The night before was a rough one for the Stevens. Helen fell ill the night before. Her husband, Edd slept lightly, as he was kept awake most of the night due to Her excessive coughing, moaning, and running back and forth to the bathroom. It must have been around 7:00 AM when Edd began to hear thumping above his house on top of his roof. What in the hell, he thought. He looked out his window and took in a deep breath. He was astonished to see flocks of birds falling from the sky, all around his property. Oh, what in the name of sweet Jesus, Helen, he yelled. He didn't hear a response from her.
He quickly ran into their bedroom to see if she was okay. Helen, you have to see this right now. He pulled the sheet from up over her head. What he saw that became of his wife horrified him. He thought he was going to have a heart attack. Her face was blue with black circles around her sunken eyes. She was wheezing in and out, gasping for air as she reached her hand up to him. Come on Helen, I'm taking you to the hospital. She screamed with pain as he attempted to lift her from the bed. A pool of blood was dried into the mattress under her back. Please put me back down Edd, she cried out. When he went to put her back down, she coughed up blood right into his face.
He stepped away quickly and ran into the bathroom to rinse the blood off of his face. He turned to dry his face with a towel when he noticed Helen standing behind him completely naked. She grabbed her head and began to moan in pain. She stepped toward him and started clawing, biting and screaming at him. She fell down and began having a seizure. Edd stepped back covered in blood with sheer terror. Helen, Helen, he cried out, she took a final breath and stopped breathing. He checked for a pulse, nothing, she was dead.

Officer Victor Edmond's was just beginning his shift. He was already in a bad mood. The line at the convenience store moved like pond water, the clerk was rude and slow ringing up lottery tickets, and he spilled hot coffee on himself once he got back into his patrol car. Goddamn it, he said out loud. He rolled down his driver side window and lit up a cigarette. That is when he got a call from the operator back at the station. Hey Victor, would you mind driving over to the Stevens residence and doing a welfare check, please. Well, Shelly, he replied, that is out of my jurisdiction. Shelly said to him, Victor you know them personally. I am sure they would be more comfortable with you. Their daughter called,
