Introduction
Do you have an urge to grab a drink sometimes?
Most of us do, especially when mingling around loved ones and friends. In little amounts, a glass may sometimes be fine—but depending on how much you drink, your health status, and age, it could be harmful. Having a dependency towards alcohol can’t be easily described and put into basic terms.
It is not surprising that most people pursue their sobriety for a variety of reasons and their reasons can be either professional or personal.
Addiction to alcohol is a very serious disease. It can tear families apart, lead to financial struggles, or even cause premature death. Therefore, it is important to find help immediately. With lack of help and resources, it can be near impossible for some people to recover from alcohol addiction and return to a normal, happy, and healthy life.
Alcoholics drink despite getting into drinking-related problems countless times, like losing their job, drunk driving, etc. In general, alcohol dependency is a disorder that is ruled by an obsession to keep drinking, without thinking twice if harms your health. Alcohol addiction is when a person has full knowledge of the detrimental consequences of his consumption but in spite of this, they can’t control their intake.
A person who isn’t alcohol-dependent has full control over their alcohol intake. They can easily decline when they don’t want to drink anymore and drinks alcohol in limited quantities. They’re only what’s commonly known as social drinkers.
This book provides research-based, valuable info for anyone who excessively drinks.
Let’s take a moment to contemplate how alcohol is affecting your family, work, and health. Let’s also take a glimpse at your drinking habits.
Drinking: Is it worth it to quit? What are the advantages of completely avoiding alcohol?
Of course, it depends all on the outcome of your drinking, and the amount you’re drinking.
Similarly, you need to decide who you’re going to trust with helping you become sober. For example, research states that taking one or two drinks a day is beneficial. If you’re battling with alcohol abuse or are an alcoholic—then that’s a different story, that research does not apply to you. There are a lot of advantages and reasons to quit drinking—not just for yourself alone.
The Benefits of Quitting
Enhanced lifespan–Alcoholics are more likely to pass away sooner than non-alcoholics due to alcohol-related complications. Some life-shortening complications may include health conditions or a drunk driving accident. People who are alcoholics appear to have little concern for their life and may participate in unhealthy habits such as smoking, gambling, drugs, and unprotected sex.
Improved quality of life–Your life will naturally be better in every possible way if you quit consuming alcoholic drinks. Happier relationships, being more productive at work, getting a better job, getting promotions, and a healthy lifestyle will be possible when you achieve a sober lifestyle. As you become more consumed by alcohol, problems in these areas tend to get worse. Your productivity and motivation to work may decrease. Your relationships may become strained due to your behavior when you drink.
Better your relationships–Communication between you and those in your life typically improves. Also, you will have more opportunity to help others in your life.
––––––––
The following chapters will discuss Alcohol and how people become eventually become dependent on it. Everyone is unique, with a wide variety of elements specific to each person that affect our relationship with this drug. And yes, alcohol is a drug. It is a legal one, but a drug none the less. The effects of alcohol on the human body are similar to the effects that opiates have, and therefore, should be accorded the same respect for potential self-harm.
No person wants to live in a state of dependency. What this book is hoping to achieve is through the provision of facts and information, from a wide variety of sources including medical and scientific, personal blogs, and societies dedicated to the support of people suffering from Alcohol Use Disorders or AUD, a solid compilation from which to develop one's own self-care recovery program.
If you know someone or that you, yourself are struggling with dependency or an addiction to alcohol, do not hesitate to seek help and get recovery treatment.
People will drink without shame until it becomes a problem. By the time it becomes a problem, they are too ashamed to ask for help.
Many problems with alcohol addiction stem from a lack of knowledge of how harmful and addictive alcohol truly is. A lot of people have a hard time noticing the problems their drinking creates. There is not enough being taught in schools and at home about the problems alcoholism can create.
Alcohol addiction is very treatable if you are willing to admit you have a problem, admit you need help, and commit to putting in the personal work it takes to overcome addiction and stay sober after treatment. People who are forced into treatment are likely to keep falling back into addiction and harmful habits until they are truly ready to see their problem as a problem.
Please note that this book is not intended to replace professional assistance during a withdrawal from alcohol. It is extremely important that medical supervision is in place, the reasons for this requirement are clearly outlined in Chapter Three.
What the book does is provide the information from which to build a new life, one without the dominating presence of an alcohol addiction.
There are plenty of books on this subject on the market, thanks again for choosing this one! Every effort was made to ensure it is full of as much useful information as possible, please enjoy the journey towards a healthier and more fulfilling life!
