MY STORY
BACK TO MYSELF
T HE PURPOSE FOR THIS book is to let people know that Epilepsy has been around for many years. So it is not something new. Yes it is more commonly diagnosed today than what it was many years ago. That is thanks to new technology and because of how Medical attention about Epilepsy and all medical conditions keeps advancing as time go’s bye. As you will notice reading this book; the many things I went through for many years. For I can admit medical has advanced greatly from what it was when I was a young child by remembering the types of tests that were performed all the way through to the day of my final surgery when I became seizure free. Also since the year 2000 when I became seizure free many more medications for seizure control have come out more than doubling the # available before the surgery.
H ERE IS MY STORY. It is about my life with Epilepsy from the time of birth through today. Includes what my folks and relatives were told when I was a baby. Along with what family, relatives & friends had to put up with because of me having Epilepsy and Seizures. Also included is what: I personally had to go through and put up with. Plus what it took for me to become seizure free; being I was determined I wanted to be seizure free. I also included where I am now thanks to being seizure free. Plus I included a number of things about my family in the book.
I have also included websites for people to look at to help find Doctors to go to. They include a National doctor finder to find doctors throughout the US, along with the two hospitals I went to for help to get my seizures under control being a true; Epilepsy treatment professional Doctor was not available in Wyoming at that time. Also included, I listed some websites to visit, to get more information about Epilepsy and Seizures; both locally and nationally. In those local and National groups you can make friends with others in the same or similar situation, suffering similar problems as you are having with seizures and the side effects of medications.
MY STORY
I , BRIAN P. LUND was born or came into this world on December 27, 1960 at: Saint Joseph’s Hospital located in Minot, North Dakota. This was a town of about 7,000 Population. Located 80-90 miles east—north east of the farm where my folks lived. The farm was located about 8 miles south east of a small town in North Dakota by the name of New Town
. This town got its name thanks to when the Garrison Dam was built on the Missouri River in North Dakota. It flooded out a small town by the name of Van Hook and one other small village, along with several farm homesteads. The people from Van Hook, the other village and some of the farmers grouped together to form a town and they called it: New Town
.
I grew up the first 9 years of my life on the farm. I was a big baby:
At the time of birth weighing 9 LBS 11 ounces. Being I was such a large baby the doctors used Forceps
to deliver me from my mother. Plus at the time I was running a very high temperature of 104.
Shortly after birth my body started convulsing or I started having convulsions / seizures. The first few doctors that came into the room including the one that delivered me said: He is having Fever Convulsions
; it is Fever Convulsions.
They all said it was Fever Convulsions thanks to I was running that high temperature my folks were sure. But a specialist doctor at that time finally came into the room and told the other doctors! No
he is not having Fever Convulsions; he has what is called Epilepsy
.
Of course I personally cannot admit to remembering or hearing what was said; by the Doctors, because I was a new born baby. So I have to go from what I was told by, my mother and father, their parents or my grandparents and other relatives and friends of my parents.
The specialist doctor who let the others know it was Epilepsy and not Fever Convulsions; first put me on Phenobarbital a seizure control medication which was very popular back then. That was because there were very
