Curling up on the sofa, I turned to my grandma Jacqueline, then 57.
‘Where’s Mummy?’ I asked.
It was 1997, I was only 5.
For as long as I could remember, my grandparents’ house was home.
Grandma flashed a look at my grandad Thomas, 61.
Then both of them sighed.
‘We’ll tell you when you’re older,’ they said eventually.
And it was only when I was in my teens that I learned the truth.
