Chapter 1
You Are What You Like
In this world of stress and rushing about with so many things to do, sometimes we just stop and scream, I can’t do this anymore! I’ve had enough.
Do you feel like this? Maybe you’re in a situation that’s difficult, a situation that you hadn’t foreseen. Maybe you’re having problems with relationships. Or with drink or drugs. With work or money. Or whatever. Maybe you’re just fed up. You may be in a rut.
Perhaps what you want, most of all, is to be able get up in the morning and face the day with a confident smile. You want to start enjoying your life (again)!
Well, you can and you will! With this book, I am going to show you how you can change your life for the better.
Wouldn’t it be great to be living the life that you were meant to live? Wouldn’t it be great to be loved for the person that you really are? Wouldn’t it be great to be getting what’s right for you and to be doing what you want in life?
Well, you can and you will! This is your life and you can start to make it better right now, if you’re ready.
Your new life can and will start right here.
You are about to embark on a journey of self discovery and self development.
• Is it going to be interesting? YES!
• Is it going to be fun? YES!
• Is it going to be easy? YES! (Well, most of the time.)
Many people are dissatisfied with their lives. That’s why so many of us reach for a glass of wine at the end of the day. Or a cigarette. Or a bar of chocolate. Anything that makes us feel better, more at ease with ourselves. These things can make us feel less inhibited, more powerful, more relaxed. They are our friends, at least in the beginning. They bring us an illusion of happiness: but they are crutches! As time goes on, they can become habits and the habits can get out of control. In fact, they can take control. And when we realize that we are not in control of our own lives, it is less than satisfying.
But that was then. Now it is time for a change.
It’s your turn to take control now. Remember, it’s your life. You own it.
You will start to get to know yourself better and make the best of yourself. There will be many steps to take along the way.
You can prepare for the journey by getting yourself a notebook which will serve as your log book. In it, you can keep a record of your progress. You can make notes on your discoveries. You can pen yourself a few messages. You might even draw some pictures or write poems. Who knows what ideas and talents are going to see the light of day? Who knows what fascinating things there are inside you, waiting to be discovered? As you find out who you really are, you will be able to enjoy yourself. You will be able to enjoy your REAL self.
You will make changes. Some changes will be small and others big: some are even likely to be life changing.
If you look at the ‘problems’ you have in your life at the moment, you might see that they are a result of carrying around excess baggage: baggage which
