    PART ONE

    Seasons & Nature

    Stick Season

    Stately slate gray naked trees

Against a patch of dirty ashen sky

Inside dogs and cats surround me

Outside, not a squirrel, or bird to fly

The garden’s gone to bed now

No white blanket yet beneath its chin

For cover in its sleeping months

Ground’s too hard to see where you have
