HOW IT ALL BEGAN
img1.jpgI am a 68-year-old mother of five, grandmother of sixteen, and great-grandmother of eight with two more on the way. We live on a farm in the mountains of Idaho where the air is clear and crisp. The water we drink comes from a spring that flows continuously. It is a beautiful place to live and raise a family.
I am usually a very up-beat person. I love to see the good in others and hope for the best for all. I am very active, doing my own housework, keeping the yard, carrying wood for the fireplace, gardening in the summer, shoveling snow in the winter, helping with our 1000 acre farm and trying to keep up with my family. I am religious. I actively participate in church activities and stay close to my Father in Heaven.
Food has always been central in my life—a way to celebrate, to relax, to spoil, to comfort, to reward. My extended family gathered often for family dinners. Besides meat and potatoes, we grew up on pop, donuts, candy bars and desserts. One of my father’s favorite sayings was, Save money, buy candy.
It was joked that our family didn’t have blood running through our veins; we had chocolate syrup. Life was good. Then, all of a sudden, life was bad.
For the past six months, my health had been deteriorating.
