    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Daniela Lerschen, born in 1975, lives with her husband near Aachen, Germany.

She discovered her passion for writing at an early age, but until the publication of Diagnosis: Acne Inversa, her book of the heart, she only wrote for herself. As a bookworm she reads passionately through all genres. Her professional diversity is clear in a varied career as a veterinary assistant, tax clerk, real estate agent and caregiver for dementia patients in a nursing home.

Shaken up by the diagnosis of Acne Inversa, she gains extensive knowledge of health topics over many years. Torn between success and defeat, she finally manages the disease. By knowing how to live a healthy lifestyle, eat right and have a positive self-image, even small steps can make a big difference. For years, I've thought about writing my disease in a guidebook for sufferers, creating a book I wished I had 30 years ago myself.

Acne Inversa - Get Out of My Life!

Reaching sufferers - Sharing knowledge - Saving quality of life - That's the goal.

    INTRODUCTION

    Dear Reader,

The book you are holding in your hands is one of the amazingly few books ever written in Germany about the disease acne inversa. Almost 30 years ago, when my disease first appeared, there was practically nothing to read or learn about it. It is even more frightening to me that nothing seems to have changed.

Even today, sufferers have to search for every little clue and piece of information in a library or on the Internet. Apart from scientific papers, which have been increasingly published in recent years and which the average person neither reads nor searches for, there is almost nothing about acne inversa. Diet books or personal development books abound.

Is acne inversa so irrelevant? Is it so irrelevant that no one has felt called to write something useful and understandable for everyone for so many years? This made me very sad and angry, so I finally started writing!

And that is why this book is aimed at people who are desperate for answers, who have been at a loss for a long time, who feel alone and abandoned, and who are sent from doctor to doctor and not taken seriously.

Acne inversa is a disease that affects the complete system and can assume catastrophic proportions. Most noticeable are the lesions on the affected areas of the skin. Acne Inversa is mistaken for other, much more harmless diseases, and if treated at all, it is treated incorrectly. As a result, the condition of many sufferers worsens day by day.

Improving the symptoms of acne inversa is possible for everyone who suffers from it.

However, there is no ONE perfect solution that helps everyone equally. As individual as the disease shows itself in all its facets, one must also deal with it in or-der to fight it.

Many doctors do not know what acne inversa is and how to treat this disease.

The information from this book can therefore also be used to approach one's own doctor as an informed patient. Thus, it becomes possible to Ask for a better and faster diagnosis and thus earlier treatment and enjoy much greater chances of help and improvement of symptoms.

My own experiences, backed up by literature, supplemented by information I have gathered, should bring you clarity and give you courage. Clarity about why acne inversa requires you to fight a battle against your own body every day, and courage to persevere until you were helped.

This book should be a practical help for you. I intend the options shown to help you find an individual way out of your dilemma. Even minor changes in everyday habits can lead to the goal.

I could not walk because I always had bumps somewhere. Sports were not possible either. Every time I exerted myself hard, I had four or five bumps again afterwards. In addition, there was the fear of what would happen if I was out and about and wounds oozed, an abscess formed or opened up. [A].

The report of a patient who has been suffering from acne inversa for eighteen years impressively shows the enormous proportions this disease can assume in those who suffer from it.

This skin disease is not just about one or two pimples that appear from time to time.

For a pubescent teenager complaining about a black-head on his nose, patients suffering from acne inversa have only a friendly smile. Their ordeal is much longer and the suffering greater: many speak of a loss of all quality of life, constant feelings of shame, severe pain and hardly imaginable effects on social life.

Often personal relationships become impossible, jobs are lost or employment is not possible at all because of an acute episode of the disease. Pain can sometimes be so severe that sports and hobbies must be abandoned.

Mental health suffers, and sufferers feel that life is slipping out of their hands. Some even have suicidal thoughts. In addition, the disease is often not recognized at all, which aggravates the symptoms and leads to secondary diseases.

Many sufferers are going from doctor to doctor, and no one can help them. Have someone has fobbed you off with the advice that you just need to wash better and take care of your skin, then it would get better? Have you tried every
