About this ebook

Lips are portals, The eyes tell stories, is the first piece of this young author's collection. He has found a way to take free verse and transform it into his own interpretation of the world and the people around him. By using emotions, and poems with romantic allusions, he has been able to take readers on his personal journey and coming of age as a writer. As well as, add new definitions to ideals like love and friendship. He challenges the notion of perception and how perception can become as vivid as a reality. The reader can relate to feelings of anxiety of an impending new beginning as in his poem Stages of our doing. The book is categorized into three different sections exploring love, personal introspection, and begins to hint at political issues such as reevaluating priorities and principles. Many have spoken on these same subjects but to see a voice in a new generation of young people is inspiring. I look forward to seeing what is next in store for this writer.

Dondago Bellamy

I am the oldest of three, born to Carol and Dondago Bellamy Sr. My sister is only one year and eleven months younger than me and my brother is six years apart. I am originally from Jersey City, New Jersey a short ride from Manhattan, New York. I moved to the suburban township of Maplewood, New Jersey at the age of six years old. At this time Maplewood was still growing as a diverse community. My earliest elementary school experience I attended schools both in Jersey City and in Maplewood. Upon graduation I went to South Orange Middle School where I started to get involved in sports. I ran track for the Jaguars and played football for the local Pop Warner team. I continued my involvement in sports throughout high school (Columbia) and in college. I was an All-American at New Jersey City University, for the track and field team. As a child my imagination would keep me entertained for hours. I would continue to invent new games and characters using my toys and the occasional rubber ball. I first found my love for writing during my early teen years. It was during my eighth grade English class when I developed a fondness for creative writing, specifically writing short stories. My interest for poetry increased as I strengthened my appreciation for music. I started writing poetry when I was seventeen but it was during my sophomore year at New Jersey City University that I believed I could follow writing as a career. After writing and spending a large amount of time in the library I would imitate these writers style and experimenting with my own. The deaths of my uncle and close friends motivated me to take the opportunity in pursuing a dream. With the encouragement of family and friends I began to compile a manuscript filled with poetry, plays, and short stories. My last semester in college I took a poetry workshop course with Professor Lin that pushed my creative limits. The experience exposed me to new writing techniques and taught me to let go and be confident in my ability. Currently I reside in Maplewood, New Jersey.
