Lora T. Coleman

Lora Coleman is a born-again Christian wife and mother dedicated to serving the Creator. She firmly believes that we were made by God and for his glory only. Furthermore, she believes that until we accept this truth and accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, life will continue to make little sense. Lora was born and raised in Washington, DC. She was one of only two daughters of the fourteen children of the late Ralph (Luke) and Audrey Watkins. Educated in the public school system, she married her hometown sweetheart in 1987. And after completing an enlistment in US Navy, Lora received an honorable discharge in October 1990. She later completed another six months, which ended in December of 1992. Also, she received her degree in social work from the University of the District of Columbia in 1998 and began working with the homeless population. Mrs. Coleman has always had a love for people and has been devoted to helping others for as long as she can remember. She greatly desires to see righteousness (which can only come from God) prevail among all people everywhere. Raised in Catholicism, Lora went to church regularly and completed all the traditional requirements of that faith. However, after becoming extremely ill in the latter part of the year 2000, she realized that she definitely needed more spiritually and that there had to be more to serving the Lord God. So she prayed and studied diligently until she heard a timely word from the Lord (Hosea 4:6) and became filled with the Holy Spirit. Immediately, she repented and obeyed the Word of God according to Romans 10:9 and Acts 2:38 as she made Jesus Christ her personal Lord and Savior. Since then, she’s been praying and working in faith to lead others to Christ as well. Mrs. Coleman serves on the Deacon Board and teaches in the Sunday school at New Hope and Life Church of God in Christ, where she also attends Bible College. Currently, Mrs. Coleman resides in Annapolis, Maryland, with her husband, one son, and one daughter.

    Acknowledgments

First and foremost, I acknowledge the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit for drawing me, opening my eyes, teaching me righteousness and leading me into all truth. And I acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as my rock, and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; and my Savior.

Then I honor my husband Michael, who stood by me, fought with me and prayed with me. With his quiet strength and relentless work attitude; he has supported me, and by the grace of God, he’s managed to keep our family together through some pretty tough times until I was delivered and empowered to get a job and help meet our family’s needs.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.

    Proverbs 18:22

I acknowledge my mom Audrey E. Watkins for being the top seller of my first book, Bishop Dana C. Head Sr. and Dr. Claudine C. Head (my pastor, co-pastor and Spiritual parents) for your unconditional love for me and continued support of my spiritual growth. Also, I thank Valentina Adjebeng Ntim, Valaria Henderson Green and my son Michael D. Coleman Jr. for editing this book to the glory of God.

    Introduction

It’s been more than ten years since I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior (and became filled with the Holy Spirit); and baptized in His name. I have experienced great joy in understanding God’s Word through the power of prayer.

. . . that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    Romans 10:9-10

Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

    Acts 2:38

I have learned so much about God and His Son, Jesus as I continue going to church for worship, to serve and to hear a Rhema word from Him through those who preach and those who teach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Also, by the grace of God, I have lived through some of the most humiliating circumstances known to man, especially being evicted. Then having to endure the emotional stress that often accompanies the Christian who is going through her/his wilderness experience, while non Christians and Christians alike look on ill-compassionately with pride, or disbelief of their determination. Nevertheless; I am a devoted Christian believer and I will keep my faith in Jesus, the Christ. Like the three Hebrew boys Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah (whom the Babylonian king called Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego), I will not serve any other gods whether my God (the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) delivers me from every conflict or not. I will continue walking with the LORD until the day of Jesus Christ.

Though it hasn’t been easy; this journey with the Lord is a slow walk, but a sure walk. Thanks Mother Dorothy Dunn for teaching me that. This means that as a Christian, you will still suffer pain and grief, and some battles may be less bearable than others. It may seem like God is taking a long time to respond to your cry for relief. However; if you keep the faith and continue studying and obeying His word, He will answer your prayers for help; but in His time, not yours.

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

    2 Peter 3:8-9

Our heavenly Father, the God who created the universe and all that abides therein, is a jealous God. His Word declares that He will not give His glory to another (Isa 48:11). So, when He does bring you out of your situation—and you tell your story—He alone will be glorified. Amen?

God has called me, so I had to write my story. Hopefully my testimonies will encourage you in the faith of Jesus Christ. I’m writing to glorify the Lord with the gifts He has given me and to exhort all God’s people to increase their faith through the practice of tithing. A tithe is a tenth of goods or income paid to support a church. The reason for which something exists or is done is its purpose and I have tithed and given offerings for nearly twenty years now and God has truly honored His promised (written) Word in my life. My Co-Pastor, Dr. Claudine Head, always says GET TO KNOW GOD FOR YOURSELF! I am so
