About this ebook

We Are at War: Book 3 The Battle between Christianity and Secularity Experience of the Nation of Odom takes up the warfront of Christianity and Secularity which is a major warfront in the world today. This war is the result of Satans use of its human agents of Atheists, Intellectuals and others in Secular Governance to create conflicts between Christian and Secular Authorities. Accordingly, the book views a Fictional example in the nation of Odom to show how the Christian and Secular Authorities can co-operate to fight Satan, their common enemy and establish the Good Pillars of Governance that Christ introduced to sustain Democratic systems Governance.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    MYPICTURE2.jpg

Vitalis Chidomere Nwaneri brings to these five Books, his experience in Religion, Economics, Politics, Science and Philosophy, as well as his exposure in various advanced and developing countries across the globe. After graduating from the Graduate School of The London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London (1962-1968), he joined the United Kingdom Government and quickly rose to the position of an Economic Adviser by 1970. He left the Government in 1971 to join the World Bank in Washington D.C., U. S.A. He worked there till 1980 and rose to the position of a Senior Economist (1980). At the World Bank, he traveled extensively across the globe and gained exposure and first hand experience on some of the major secular issues of Governance, Political, Economic and Social Development . Based on his World Bank experience, he tackled the conflicts between these issues in some countries in Asia, Middle EastAfricaEurope . The challenges of these issues and their conflicts with economic and other development goals had inspired his analyses in these five Books.

Back in Nigeria in 1980, Vita, as his friends call him , dreamed of extending his experience to his country’s development challenges. Accordingly, he soon became one of the country’s pioneers in Indigenous Banking and Trade sectors .He embarked on the audacious mission of bringing his global exposure and experience to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s Finance, Trade and Private sectors to lead National Development. His Book on MISSION 2000 highlights his audacity. His Book reflected his views as a Consultant for the Nigeria Government, the World Bank, African Development Bank and the U.S.A.I.D. His pioneering projects in Nigeria’s Banking and Trade sectors exposed him to the weakness of Nigeria’s Politics and Governance. So he decided to take a shot at Nigerian Politics.

There, he learned much of the confrontation with the evils of corruption and bad governance, all of which he had seen through his World Bank tasks in the developing countries across the world. His experience on the conflicts with corruption and bad governance in Nigeria frustrated his shot at Politics and his pioneer projects on Indigenous Merchant (Investment) Banking and Commodity and Futures Exchange in the country.

In these Books, he attributes Corruption and Bad Governance in Nigeria and other countries of the world to the war waged by Satan and its evil spirits against God and Man. The war has been going on since the creation of Adam. Through its temptation, Satan destroyed the Perfect world given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden by God . The curse on Adam , Eve and Satan launched our war with Satan which he surveys in these five Books. Vita emphasizes throughout these Books that, despite the temptations, attacks and wars by the enemy, God has a way of turning some of Satan’s attacks to good results. A global example is the establishment of the United Nations system after the first and second world wars to stop another war. On the personal level, Vita’s frustrated efforts in Nigeria eventually helped to open up ownership of Nigerian banking to most Nigerian citizens for the first time. Similarly, his frustrated efforts in the Trade sector finally led to the establishment of Nigeria’s First Commodity Exchange.

Back to the USA in 2002, he continued to contribute to Africa’s Development efforts along with his other Professional Associates through their Organization of African Professionals and Associates in the Diaspora (OAPAD Inc.) incorporated in the State of Maryland where he livesVita had written several books on Nigeria’s Economic and Trade Issues as well as Articles in the London School of Economics Journal of Transport Economics, the World Bank and IMF Journal of Finance and Development, Newspapers and Magazines published in Nigeria (see References in Book One).

Above all his efforts, he has been a devout Catholic since his birth in the Eastern Igboland of Nigeria 70 years ago. As indicated in several chapters of his Books, his main mission is to contribute to the New Evangelization launched recently by Pope Benedict XVI when he established the Pontifical Council on New Evangelization (PCNE) . The Pope called on all lay and ordained members of the Catholic Church to join hands to contribute to the success of the Council. These Books are Vita’s response to the Pope’s call. He shares the concerns of the world on the gradual deterioration in the levels of World Peace and Christianity because of the Enemy’s attacks, crises and wars. His Books therefore took a military perspective of the crises facing the world today. He surveyed the history of these wars and crises in Book One, from the time of creation to the present. In Books 2, 3 and 4 he surveys the warfronts between Christianity and Secularism from the family to the global levels. He focuses on the role of Satan in using intellectuals as its agents in war.

As Christ warned , what kills us emerge from these battles in our hearts that lead to sins of murder, adultery and other crimes and corruptions . With God’s grace , the Good Spirits in our hearts defeat the Bad ones and Good actions emerge to save us .

The world needs to be reminded of these facts. We seem to have forgotten who our real enemy is. Satan and its evil spirits are indeed behind man’s crises, attacks and wars. It makes us turn around to blame ourselves for all our crises.

Accordingly, Vita makes several audacious Recommendations that call on Christians across the globe to consider joining hands with the Pope’s PCNE to build up a crop of Warriors he calls The Knights of The Cross Warriors—K of X will launch new fronts of the war with the enemy in Politics, Economics and Science. They will fight against the enemy from the homes to offices, Churches to Parliaments, through the Streets and Business Markets, with the Television, Radio and Internets, by foot, cars, ships and airplanes. They will be guided by Christ’s Pillars of modern civilization built on God’s Commandment to Love even our enemies, wash the feet of those we servepray for those who persecute us, turn the other cheek to those who slap us and forgive those who offend us seventy seven times. We must do these because our enemies know not what they do as Christ prayed on the CrossOnly the real enemy, Satan knows what it is doing. It is indeed the master of Lies, Deceptions and Confusion across the world. In Books Two and Three, Vita surveyed the war that Satan had been waging between Christianity and Secularity to drive God out of secular governance, corrupt the Pillars that Christ established to sustain our modern Civilization, Governance justice, peace, human rights, equality and progress for all.

VITA now lives with his family in Maryland U.S.A. from where he wrote these five Books.

    FOREWORD

Vitalis Nwaneri and I met for the first time in 1968 at the Graduate School of the London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, where he was taking his graduate courses in Economics. We have been close friends since then.

Vita, as we all call him, has a passion for several fields of study. I was not surprised therefore when, at the end of his graduate studies, he was quickly appointed by the British Government as one of the few African born Economists in Her Majesty’s Government Service He quickly rose to the position of an Economic Adviser and then left for the World Bank. There, he rose to the position of a Senior Economist by 1980. He returned to Nigeria in 1980 to undertake pioneering work in the Banking and Foreign Trade Sectors.

I discovered later that underlying all his passions was his deep faith in the Catholic Church. I am not surprised therefore that he had the audacity to venture into the topic of this book. He had shown similar audacities in taking up challenging and pioneering ventures in Nigerian Banking and later the Establishment of the First African Commodity and Futures Exchange in Nigeria.

This book is, without any doubt, one of his greatest ventures and a clear demonstration of his audacity and Faith. In the book, he takes up a topic that would challenge many experts in Religious and Global Affairs. In a world bewildered by what he calls "The Crises of Realism, Secularism and Relativism in Politics, Morality and Human affairs, Vita offers what looks like a very simple explanation, We Are At War With Satan, Man’s Only Enemy. With that explanation, Vita undertakes fascinating journeys across the globe, tackles very complicated issues and reaches profound Conclusions and Recommendations.

As a Professor of Economics and a Community leader in Nigeria, I welcome Vita’s proposals as a new way to confront local and national conflicts especially in my own country Nigeria where corruption and bad governance had been the principal weapons used by the agents of the enemy, Satan against the people to cause conflicts from the family to the national levels. Therefore, I have little hesitation in recommending the book not only to religious and political leaders but also individuals at all levels across the world especially in Africa. To my fellow Economists, I recommend the book as having a most interesting view of global trends towards a breakdown of the global economy as a result of the conflicts of terrorism and other crises in international governance. Vita attributes these conflicts to the gradual erosion of the political and economic pillars of governance established under the principles of Christ’s teaching. He shows that Satan is behind these erosions and conflicts. He then calls for a coordinated defense and counter strategies by the secular and religious authorities to minimize these attacks by the enemy and avoid a breakdown in the global political and economic structures. Please find time to read his views in the last Section of the book.

May be, through this new military perspective of life’s challenges we can learn how to tackle our own challenges at the personal, family, business, community, national and global levels …

    PREFACE

ARE WE REALLY AT WAR ?

In the midst of our daily pursuits in life, we are confronted with all sorts of challenges, crises, wars and attacks, from our personal to the family, community, national and global levels. We should find some time to reflect on these crises and attacks. We can employ various perspectives in reflecting on these challenges. We can follow worldly perspectives of economics to view these challenges as a part of our economic competitive lives in which we are struggling with each other to survive. We can employ scientific perspectives to view them as biological, physical and materialistic challenges of life. We can also employ a Christian perspective to view our challenges as part of God’s Divine Providence and Plan. He provided us a perfect world which turned imperfect through the work of an enemy.

I prefer the last of these options because, unlike the other options , it embraces the human and spiritual , the earthly and the eternal perspectives. Furthermore , I chose to take a military view of Christian teaching in reflecting over our challenges in life. I prefer to view our challenges through a warfront binocular. The warfront between Christianity and Secularity is probably the most vicious and most widely publicized of all our warfronts in life .

Finally, I decided to view, through my binocular, not only the current world of today but through a historic journey of the past and present worlds. Such a journey must be undertaken through a ship. Among many ships out there, I chose the ship of Catholicism. In his recent EWTN program, Rev. Robert E. Barron described Catholicism as a ship that has been sailing for two thousand years (available through the Catholicismseries.com website )

A ship built by God Himself through His Son Jesus Christ is clearly a better ship to sail in our journey than any other competing ship. My Book does not analyze the structure of the ship itself. The ship simply provides me the platform to have a personal view of our challenges within and outside the ship. For details on the structure of the ship itself, I refer to the Scriptures, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and its Magisterium. In one of the Introductory Chapters below, I shall compare the ship of Catholicism with other ships that we had the options to sail on .

    A. Questions To Reflect Upon.

Based on our journey through these Christian and military perspectives, we ponder over some of the following questions that the world seems to be forgetting these days .

    Are we really at war?

What kind of war are we fighting?

    Who is behind these wars?

What are these wars all about?

    Who are the parties?

What are their weapons and strategies?

What are the rewards for fighting on God’s Good side and,

What are the punishments for joining the Enemy’s Bad side?

    What if I don’t fight ?

Through these three Books, I would like to share my reflections on these questions. These days, the world seems to be forgetting that these wars and crises are going on in our lives. We need to be reminded that there is an enemy out there tempting us to its evil ways, corrupting our good ways and deceiving us on what is Right and Wrong. Its ultimate goal is to divert us from following the one who is the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jesus Himself. Our lives are therefore joined with Jesus who is Life itself. Accordingly, our spiritual and secular pursuits should have the same goal of following the one who is the Way , Truth and Life. Our Religious and Secular leaders should have the same mission of serving us by promoting this same goal. However, Satan, man’s only enemy, fights to deceive us to believe that the missions and goals of Religion and Secularity are separate. It corrupts the principle of Freedom to mean Freedom to drive God out of our secular lives and governance. We all know that Religious Freedom is one of the highest of all human freedoms and the main mission of secular governance is to preserve and promote Religious and other liberties. In this Book we want to expose the enemy’s lies and remind the world that the two missions of Christianity and Secularity are indeed the same. Accordingly, secular and religious authorities should unite to fight their common enemy. This enemy fights us under its mask and will do everything to stop us from exposing its mask to show that it is the one behind our crises and attacks on world peace. We argue below that this enemy is the one behind the present state of crises in world peace as affirmed at the recent meetings of World Religious Leaders in Assisi , the World Secular Leaders in France and The U.S. Catholic Bishop’s Fall Meeting in Baltimore , Maryland. In all our three Books on the subject , we attribute most of our personal , national and global attacks, crises and wars to Man’s only enemy , Satan .

In one of the Introductory chapters of this Book below, I shall provide My Confessions to illustrate its attacks against me to stop me from exposing its mask by carrying out the project of writing these Books. The Confessions describe my Reflections and experience in my own battle with the enemy through out the period of writing these Books. But first, let me address the first two questions posed above in this Preface.

    B. Are We Really At War?

This question is central to all the reflections in our three Books on the subject. There will be no need for our reflections in these Books if there are no wars, crises and attacks against humanity, physically and spiritually. However, I do not consider myself qualified to address this question and thereby base my reflections on my answer alone. Accordingly, I rely on the world views of Religious and Secular Leaders across the globe for authentic answers to the question.

We begin with the views of World Religious Leaders who met recently in Assisi at the invitation of Pope Benedict XVI to deliberate over the on-going threats to world peace. After considering their views we shall turn to the views of Secular Leaders who also met in France recently under the G-20. This is a gathering of the world’s top political leaders managing some of the largest economies in the world such as the USA, the EURO Zone and others but excluding China, India and those of developing countries. Finally, we take up the views of The U. S. Catholic Bishops’ Fall Conference in Baltimore, U.S.A. These are the three authoritative sources we rely upon in this Book for our assessment on the state of world peace .

In addition to these sources , we shall revisit some of the recent Leaders in the type of war we are viewing here

    A. Global Religious Leaders Views .

    1. Answers from the 2011 World Peace Gathering of Global Religious Leaders in Assisi

Religious Leaders from all parts of the World gathered on Thursday, 27 October 2011 at the invitation of Pope Benedict XVI at the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi for what was called, The World Day of Prayer, Dialogue and Reflections on Global Peace. We refer to it in this Book as, "The 2011 Assisi World Conference on Peace"—AWCP.

The AWCP was in commemoration of the first of such gathering in 1985 under the invitation of Pope John Paul 11. That was twenty five years ago when all Religious leaders of the world gathered at the same venue to reflect on the state of world peace… Despite their call for actions, the state of global peace had not improved much, judging from their statements this time around. Accordingly, Pope Benedict XVI renewed his predecessor’s invitation of 1985.

    2. Reflections and Dialogue on World Peace.

Leaders of all leading Religions across the world, Christians, Jewish, Muslims and non-Christian leaders of other Religions, participated at the AWCP. After two days of reflections, dialogue and prayers , each representative rose up to commit himself and his followers before the Pope and the rest of the World , to a mission of promoting greater peace in the world. Finally, all shared their prayers and resolutions for peace under justice and progress for all peoples in the world. They all resolved to condemn all acts of violence, terrorism and attacks against any group of people under any reason especially under claims of religious justification. Their resolutions were taken on the second concluding day under the Theme of "Pilgrims of Peace; Pilgrims of Truth "

    3. Pope Benedict XVI’s Address

The address of Pope Benedict XVI to the AWCP, finally and explicitly defined the state of the wars, crises and attacks that inspired his invitation to all the participants at the gathering.

    4. Religion causes wars and crises

First, he addressed those who claim that Religion brings wars, crises and attacks. This group therefore blames religion for the on-going wars, crises and attacks across the globe. This claim, the Pope said is true to some extent. It is the in-fighting amongst religious groups, within and outside their groups, that causes some of our religious crises. Accordingly, the Pope called for more purification of Religions.

We must note here that we stated throughout our three Books that Satan instigates attacks and crises within religious groups (the Church) as part of its mission to cause division and then crises and wars. We therefore recommended that we must fight it within the Church itself in order to do what the Pope referred to as Purification of

    Religion.

    5. Those Driving God Out of our lives cause wars

Second, Pope Benedict identified the second group responsible for our wars, crises and attacks as those who deny or try to push God out of our lives. He cited the experience of Hitler and his army in the Second World War as an example of this group. Pope Benedict said that this group promises to bring peace if only we can push out God from our lives and affairs. He said that our God is a God of Peace. Therefore there cannot be peace in a world without Him.

This is the main topic of this Book, the War between Christianity and Secularity.

It is being waged by those agents of Satan trying to drive God out of secular governance and other sectors including corporate, social and economic sectors .

Here again we note that we had maintained throughout our Books that Satan’s mission is to drive God out of our secular and religious lives and governance. Its mission is to cause wars and crises in our lives, wearing its mask to deceive us from recognizing it as our real enemy .

    6. Atheists and Agnostics cause wars

Third, Pope Benedict identified Atheists and Agnostics as one of the groups behind our wars and crises. They are not promoters of peace as they claim. The Pope said these people promote wars through their denial of Truth, Reason and Faith. We shall discuss in Chapter A below the way the enemy had used Atheists and Agnostics to cause crises and wage its wars between the Religious and Secular Authorities. It does it by creating conflicts between its soldiers of vices and those of God’s virtues .

We had stated throughout these Books ( especially in Book One ), that these devilish vices of greed, ambition for selfish pursuits at all costs to others, envy, denial of human rights, and other criminalities are Satan’s soldiers fighting inside our hearts and minds against our virtues. The two opposing armies fight wars until the wars spring out into crises in our personal, family and often to the national and global levels. As St. Paul said, these wars in our hearts make us do the Bad things that we do not want to do, and fail to do the Good things we want to do.

In conclusion the Pope called on the participants at Assisi not to go without a firm resolution to fight to promote greater peace across the world. As we saw above, they all did precisely that.

    7. Spiritual Wars Lead To Physical wars

As indicated in Pope Benedict’s Remarks above, both Religion and Atheism cause Wars. The enemy employs fanatic atheists and fundamental religious terrorists to launch its wars and attacks. This is true of both spiritual and physical wars. Indeed the goal of our enemy, Satan , is to launch spiritual wars in our hearts and gradually build up to the highest level when physical war erupts into an open war. Then it uses the physical war to achieve its ultimate goal of attacks at Christianity and the worship of God. This is what we are now witnessing in most advanced countries where its agents are calling for driving God out of our governance and the public square. We had discussed extensively in our Book One how the spiritual attacks develop between the soldiers of the virtues of the Holy Spirit, ( Faith , Love , Hope, Humility, Equity and Love in dealing with our neighbors ) against those of the enemy’s soldiers of vice (envy, greed, unbridled ambition, jealousy, sexuality and so on ). These battles eventually erupt to the surface and if the enemy’s soldiers win in our hearts, the way is clear for it to launch its strategies towards an open physical war. This happened first between Cain and Abel (Gen. 4:1). The
