    Chapter 1

    Summer was drawing to an end, the sun had lost its bite; still bright but the ferocity had faded. Once green leaves now began to take on the shades of autumn, browns and reds and luscious gold’s, the countryside around Janet didn't look fresh any more, it was tired after a year of growing, almost as though sensing the winter, plants surrendered, placing hope for continuation in seeds scattered to the four winds. Janet quite liked autumn, still warm enough for light clothes but not scorchingly hot... she wasn't keen on the summer months, even with lashings of high factor sun block her fair skin always burned.

    Blonde: hair, blonde skin, blonde brain!

    It wasn't very fair of people to point out her epitomising the blonde stereotype, but some facts were inescapable, even Janet had admitted that she wasn't the brightest spark. But what did she care! She was happy - naive some said, she disagreed, she was simply willing to accept the world and its workings without the need for explanations or deep understanding. At eighteen she had finished school a couple of years before, college had been sampled (and rejected), so now she was drifting. The State took care of some of her needs, a little cash while she looked for work, (allegedly), her parents also played a role in supporting her... but that was about to change... radically.
