    ACKNOWLEDGMENT:

Journal of a Street Preacher is dedicated to my Master, King, Savior, Lord, and Life, Jesus Christ.

Lord, on the Day of Judgment, may the words of this book be found to have been useful to Your Eternal Cause, in Jesus’s Name. Amen.

    PROLOGUE

Are you prepared to successfully defend every moment of your life against the Righteous Judgment of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Creator, Sustainer, and Moral Governor of the universe, Who has watched your every act, heard your every word, known your every thought, perceived your every motive and intention, Who will judge you by the Standard of Sinlessness expressed in His Person and in His Word, and Who will punish your every sin, not forsaken, by casting you in the lake of fire for eternity?!

This instant, where do you stand—head held high, in the sunlight, on Christ’s Holy Hill, holy, righteous, perfect as He? Or with sullied soul, staggering through Satan’s shadowed alleys of sin, drunk with the wine of the world?!

The angel is crying, Time no more!

The Judge, with raised Sword, stands at your door!

Choose, now, whom you will serve!

REPENT! OBEY THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! OR YE WILL ALL LIKEWISE PERISH!

    SIN BREAK

    Panama City Beach, Florida, USA

    BABYLON BEACH, USA

    Monday, March 21, 2005

They mobbed us, cursing, mocking, whipping down their swim trunks, but we kept on preaching:

GOD’S WORD SAYS, IN 1 JOHN 3:8–9, ‘HE THAT COMMITTETH SIN IS OF THE DEVIL. . . . WHOSOEVER IS BORN OF GOD DOTH NOT COMMIT SIN.’ ACCORDING TO GOD’S WORD, YOU ALL ARE CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL! UNLESS YOU STOP YOUR DRINKING, SMOKING, SEX OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE, AND CURSING AND START LIVING IN SIN-FREE BIBLICAL OBEDIENCE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO DIED ON THE CROSS FOR YOUR SINS, WAS BURIED, AND ROSE AGAIN, ALL OF YOU WILL BURN IN THE LAKE OF FIRE!

    HATERS OF GOD

Fifty more drunkards stumbled up to us from various parts of the beach, slurring, WE’RE GOOD CHRISTIANS! WE LOVE JESUS!

Jesus Himself says, in John 14:15, 21–24, that, if you truly loved Him, you would keep His Commandments we countered, including, ‘Be not drunk,’ in Ephesians 5:18. You don’t keep Christ’s Commandments because you hate Him!

Hearing this, the sin-breakers raged as rabid animals. They hurled footballs at us, one barely missing the head of my wife, Tamika. Faces wrinkled in crimson contortions, and they blasphemed God and Christ, cursing vehemently at us and thrusting their middle fingers in our faces. Hands grabbed us from every direction, trying to yank me off of our preaching ladder, trying to pull Tamika away from the ladder’s base, as they themselves attempted to climb up. Bottles of booze were shoved in our faces. Slurring lips lisped lurid lascivious propositions for sex. Many tore off their swimming trunks and bathing suits and gyrated naked before us.

We simply stared them in the eye and kept on preaching.

Suddenly, they resumed raging at a more feverish pitch. Yelling, one yanked down his pants and flopped, fishlike, in the sand. Some guzzled beer from cans, bottles, and bongs. Others groped groggy, giggling girls. While I preached on the ladder and Tamika preached at my side, the lust-buckets began grabbing her backside and mine, as well.

We don’t hate Jesus! they exclaimed, wide-eyed and gaping, We believe in Him!

James 2:19 says that, just like you, the devils believe in Jesus, we explained. But, also just like you, they hate Him by disobeying Him, and, therefore, are not saved from their sins. James 2:20 further states that, just like you, the devils’ belief or faith in the existence of Christ, without works of loving obedience to the Word of Christ, is dead.

GOD HATES ALL WORKERS OF INIQUITY (PSALM 5:4–5)

We might be drunk and having sex outside of marriage, but Jesus still loves us in spite of our sins! they whined.

Psalms 5:4–5, 11:5–6, and 7:11 says ‘God hates all workers of iniquity, those whose soul loves violence, and is angry with the wicked every day!’ we shot back.

FORSAKE SIN TO BE FORGIVEN FROM SIN (PROVERBS 28:13)

But no matter what we do, one offered weakly, God will have mercy on us and forgive us!?

Proverbs 28:13 declares, ‘Whoever covers his sins shall not prosper. Whoever confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy.’ God only has mercy on and forgives the sins that you choose to forsake. You must confess and stop your drinking and sexual sin and then Christ will have mercy and cleanse you!

DO ALL TO THE GLORY OF GOD (1 CORINTHIANS 10:31)

But Jesus turned water into wine! they begged.

Wine is simply the soured or fermented juice of soured or rotten grapes, we replied. Christ would not have made water into the juice of soured grapes, but into that of ripe grapes. Therefore, the ‘wine’ that Christ made from water was comparable to modern-day nonalcoholic wine, grape juice, or the juice of fresh grapes.

But drinking is okay, a few ventured, as long as you don’t get drunk!?

Drinking doesn’t glorify Christ, we declared. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says do all to the glory of God. Besides, 1 Corinthians 6:9–10 says that no drunkard shall inherit the kingdom of God, and ‘drunkard’ in the original Greek means ‘tipsy.’ God commands you not only to not get drunk, but also not to get even slightly buzzed, and not to drink at all!

    NOT EVERYONE THAT CONFESSES CHRIST

WILL ENTER CHRIST’S KINGDOM (MATTHEW 7:21)

But we’ve asked Jesus to come into our heart and because of that, no matter how much we get drunk or have sex outside of marriage or masturbate or look at pornography, we’re going to heaven!? they pleaded.

Christ Himself said, in Matthew 7:21, ‘Not every one that says Lord, Lord, or supposedly verbally confesses or invites Jesus into their heart will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the Will of God the Father Who is in Heaven.’ 1 Thessalonians 4:3 says ‘This is the Will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you, even your sanctification.’ That word in the original Greek means ‘moral blamelessness’ or sin-free living. Verbally asking Jesus to come into your heart but then kicking Him out with your sinful drunken lustful lifestyle won’t get you into heaven. Only doing God’s Will by living free from sin, for Christ, will grant you a place in God’s kingdom.

    DAMNABLE HERESIES

But the Bible says that everyone is born a sinner! Everybody sins every day! Nobody has ever been perfect besides Jesus! they screamed, red-faced.

Actually, we began, "God’s Word says in James 4:17, Deuteronomy 1:39, Ezekiel 18:20, Genesis 1:26–27, Romans 3:23, 6:1–2, 7, 11, Genesis 6:9, Job 1:1, 8, and 2:3, Philippians 3:15, John 8:11, and Mathew 5:48 that sin is a person’s choice to do evil instead of the good that they know that they should choose to do when they grow old enough to know good and evil. Because children are not born with the knowledge of good and evil, children cannot Biblically be said to be born sinners. Because every adult is born as a child, adults cannot be Biblically said to be born sinners.

"God also declares that nobody inherits the sins of another person (because sin is a person’s personal choice of will, not a ‘substance’), teaching us that nobody has inherited Adam’s sin, or a ‘sinful nature.’ Additionally, God’s Word states that all have, in the past, sinned, besides Christ. But God’s Word does not say anywhere that all are currently, at the present time, sinning. Nor does God’s Word say that all sin every day, or will sin in the future.

"In fact, God’s Word says that if someone is Biblically and truly in Christ, one is dead to sin, freed from sin, and alive only to God. Scripture also says that Noah was perfect, Job was perfect, and Paul and other New Testament believers were perfect. The word ‘perfect’ is ‘telios’ in Greek, meaning ‘to be complete in mentality, labor, growth, and moral character. To be morally perfect, one must always choose to utilize all of one’s God-given faculties toward the ultimate end of being completely conformed to Christ’s Sin-free Moral Character. This moral perfection can be further defined or summed up as love, disinterested benevolence, or always willing and promoting the highest good of God and others. Christ commands us to go and sin no more and be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. Surely, He wouldn’t command us to do what He knew was impossible for us to do."

For a moment, the stumbling-drunk sin-break students were silent, staring thoughtfully at the sand.

A seemingly sober student walked from the beachfront hotel balcony, where many of the collegians were busy booze-bombing their brains in full view of the police or anyone else who cared to see, across the sand to our ladder, asking quietly, Please move closer to the hotel; we can’t hear you clearly.

We moved the ladder closer. Tamika climbed up and preached sin, righteousness, judgment, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. The heathen went even wilder.

A flame-haired lush, A—, held upright by two semi-sober friends, stumbled up to us, screaming that he was drunk but still a good Jesus-loving, heaven-bound, Christian. We informed him, from Scripture, in 1 John 3:8, that, while he chose to sin, he was a Jesus-hating, hell-bound, devil’s-child. At this, A—’s entire body flushed. He snarled out threats to bodily harm us and then, yelling, shaking, teeth gnashing, he flung himself into the sand and writhed, thrashing.

From that point on, he regularly staggered up to us, shrieking, cursing, threatening, and blaspheming and then stumbled off in a rage, only to repeat the cycle minutes later. He finally dared me to show him where the Bible said that God hated anyone. I showed him Psalms 5:4–5 and 11:5–6. He was silent. Flame fanned out of his face. Fire extinguished from his eyes. He mumbled something, then trudged off, head hung.

    A REMNANT SHALL BE SAVED

After three or four hours, when the drunkards dragged, the sun sank, and the wind whipped cold, a sober student, M—, approached, asking if dancing to non-Christian music was a sin. We explained, from Revelation 4:11 and 1 Corinthians 10:31, that all people were created by God to give God pleasure and to do all to glorify Him. Because non-Christian dancing was done to please and glorify self, it neither pleased nor glorified God and, therefore, was sin. He then asked about smoking marijuana and received a similar answer with Scriptural Truths based on Psalms 24:1, 1 Corinthians 3:16–17 and 6:19–20.

M— went on to tell us that he had been thinking that his life was sinful and unacceptable to Christ for awhile. When he heard us preaching publicly some of the things that he had been pondering privately, he expressed a desire to leave his hotel room, go down to listen to the preaching, and ask questions.

Unfortunately, he related, his drunken spring-break roommates had physically detained him during the duration of the preaching; but he had finally managed to escape as the crowd began to disperse. He confessed that he knew that he needed to stop his sin and surrender his life entirely to Christ and thanked us, saying that he had received answers from the preaching that he had long been seeking, and that what he had received would enable him to put away his sinful dancing and marijuana smoking and follow Christ.

After M— left, we saw that the majority of the crowd had departed. We stood in the chilly twilight and thanked the Lord that after more than six hours of preaching (including a few hours, earlier, at other locations), to approximately one thousand gainsaying, blaspheming, indecently exposing, drunken sinners, He had been merciful to send one person whose heart He had opened, who desired to turn from sin, deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Christ.

Trudging through the sand, silence, ocean spray, and gathering darkness to our car and then driving to our hotel beneath the starry Florida sky, we felt the fatigue of battle-weary but satisfied soldiers who, having fought against legions of the enemy, had finally taken the hill and alerted the one receptive prisoner of war that their Commanding Officer had set him free, and that his time of freedom was now.

    "MY WORD… SHALL NOT

    RETURN UNTO ME VOID"

    Tuesday, March 22, 2005

The red-haired young man stopped walking through the twilight rain and glanced up. Seeing this, we turned into the hotel parking lot in front of him and rolled down the window.

    A—, how’s it going? I asked.

Searching our faces, he smiled sheepishly.

I’m sorry about how I acted last night, he began. I knew that what you were preaching was right; that I was not a Christian while I was getting drunk, cursing, lusting after women, committing other sins—I just didn’t want to admit it. But every time after I ran up to you shouting, cursing, arguing, and then left, I went back to my room, read the Bible, and looked up Scriptures about what you said.

I just want you to know that what God is doing through you is affecting people. Even though they might be drunk and acting like it doesn’t affect them, they’re all thinking about it, like I have been.

We spoke with A—, the red-haired young man who had seemed drunker than all of the other students put together the previous night, for awhile, explaining sin, righteousness, judgment, repentance toward God, faith toward Christ, and the necessity of Biblical holiness. He listened and said that he understood, asking pertinent questions and making appropriate statements indicative of this.

He was an Indiana University student, depressed, despairing of any meaning in life, but now aware that he had chosen to separate himself from God by choosing to commit sin. Because of this, it was up to him to choose to turn away from his sin, surrender his life entirely to the Lord Jesus Christ, and live in loving, sin-free, obedience to Christ, according to the Bible, in order to be reconciled to God and receive eternal life. Or he could choose to continue drunkenly stumbling down the beach of sin and selfishness all the way into the lake of fire.

After we concluded, and the thunder, lightning, and rain picked up, A—
