About this ebook

Keeping Hope Alive is about the incredibly supernatural things that God comes and does in the lives of everyday people. He comes meeting the needs of the individuals on the streets, in kids Bible Clubs, for the homeless, and on mission trips. The scripture says that if you give a cup of cold water in His name, we have done everything. When the Keeping Hope Alive teams go out, rather than a cup of cold water, we give out bottled water in hospitals, roses at the bus station on Mothers Day, candy to little children in apartment communities, and bread to poor on mission outreaches. We hear story after story from those we encounter of how blessed they are by the simple act of love that we extend to them in Jesus name. This book shares the details of many of these encounters where God showed up blessing individuals through these simple acts of obedience. As we put our arms around them; He places His arm around them, too. When we give to them; He gives to them, too. These pages are filled with stories of Hope. Hope that has been revitalized, instilled, and even seen become reality, as we minister through the non-profit Christian organization of Keeping Hope Alive.

Keeping Hope Alive - Freddie Power

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to an amazing man of God. He is a man with a dream; A man with a vision to save little children all over Africa. Matt Peterson is a pastor, a father, and a visionary. His heart is to dig wells to provide fresh water to children and families in Africa that is clean and free of parasites and bacteria. Not only is his team digging wells in village after village, they are teaching the villagers how to care for and maintain the wells, along with their own personal hygiene.

With this vision in his heart, and a call from God to save these little children, he prays that provision for well after well will come in. Matt loves the poor; he loves little children; and he loves the people of Africa. The work he is doing hydrating humanity has only just begun. The impact he is making will resound for generations to come!

    INTRODUCTION

    Keeping Hope Alive:

    A Ministry, A Lifestyle

In 1992, my husband and I moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Once we were settled in to the area, we joined a small Methodist Bible Study. Ms. Virginia Barbee also attended this Bible Study Group. One day she shared with me how desperately concerned she was that her community was losing so many little boys to drugs, either as users or as dealers. She had heard about the Bible Study I was doing with inner-city moms, and wondered if I would come teach kids at the community center. Ms. Barbee, a precious grandmother, had a wonderful vision that the Word of God would change the lives of these young boys. She was right. Through Bible Clubs the Word of God has been changing the lives of both the children and their families for over 17 years now!

It all started with a group of 10 young kids at a local community center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. One of the boys in that first group came up with a name for our little Bible Study group. He called it Keeping Hope Alive. Now, what began as a single Bible study group for kids is now an international non-profit organization. It is almost certain that Ms. Virginia Barbee did not know that starting that little Bible Study would go beyond the neighborhood and into the nations. Over the years the Bible Study has reached orphanages in Russia, squatter camps in South Africa, refugee camps in Greece, outer villages in Mozambique, and even kids who’ve lost parents to AIDs in Nakuru, Kenya! Ms. Barbee had no idea that over 5,000 children and adults would be saved; or that many parents would experience changes in their lives as a result of the prayers of their own children.

When I teach the Bible Clubs, I always share a Bible story and Scripture Verse using motions and sign language to help them remember what is being taught. God is so faithful to answer the prayers of these faith-filled children, even when they lift up little wishes or big dreams of things
