Stella Doggy - Mingyan Jiang
First Day of School
Yahoo!
Stella Doggy, a golden retriever with a dazzling smile, yelled.
Though Acornville was the only town she had ever lived in, Stella thought it was the best town yet.
Stella’s great-grandparents used to live far away from Acornville. So did Stella’s best friend Frogina’s great-grandparents. Their town suffered a large drought. They had to leave. The town traveled far and wide before finding Acornville. There were beautiful green hills, large ponds and waterfalls. They named it Acornville and kept it a secret location for only the towns’ members, dogs and frogs.
It was a beautiful day. Flowers danced in the breeze. Stella’s nose filled with the sweet smell of nectar. Birds flew around her silky fur and landed gracefully on her shoulders. She looked longingly into a clear pond, full of dragonflies sitting on pink, open lilies.
No… I can’t jump into that. I have new clothes today!!!
Stella skipped over the little stones that guided her to her school, Dory Elementary. Wow, first day of school!
I’m in Grade 3! I’m in Grade 3!
She laughed and repeated it all over again.
Yahoo!
She giggled and ran into the school yard with her brand-new, big, red bag bouncing along with her.
After scanning the whole school yard, Stella saw her best friend, Frogina.
FROGINA!
She hollered.
A green, pretty frog spun around. Frogina hopped to Stella and gave her the biggest and froggiest hug a frog could do. They did their secret handshake and talked about their summer.
I went rock climbing at Dog Fun Place! It was so exciting!
Stella beamed.
I went to Lily Pad Station, and rode on the Lily Pad train all the way into the mountain!
Frogina waved her hands around in the air to describe the beautiful place.
The two best friends talked and talked. Then Stella leaned to Frogina and whispered her secret. They smothered a giggle.
Soon they changed topics.
I brought a bone and chips!
Stella pulled out her new lunch bag, which was decorated in little bones and steaks, and opened it.
See?
She put her paw over the bone, My favorite too, you know.
Wow! I brought some fly tacos!
Frogina exclaimed and fetched out her lunch bag as well.
The school bell rang loudly, and they scampered into line. Stella kept on chatting and didn’t notice one furry paw slipped into her lunch bag.
Frogina sensed that someone was behind them. She turned and saw the shadow gliding away into the Grade 4 mob, leaving Stella’s lunch bag unzipped.
Who’s that?
Frogina murmured.
Stella-
Frogina pulled her friend’s new sweatshirt.
She took a long look at Stella’s unzipped lunch bag and thought about it for a moment.
Um… your lunch bag is unzipped.
Stella glanced down and happily announced, Oh silly me! Thanks!
Stella zipped up her lunch bag without looking into it.
Frogina stared at the crowds of Grade 4 boys again.
Did you leave your lunch bag unzipped?
Frogina asked.
Stella shrugged. I don’t know… maybe?
Recess Time!
Frogina, Stella and others settled down into their seats and waited for the teacher to start talking.
Hello students! Welcome back for another great year at Dory Elementary School! Some of you may be new. Here are some basic rules!
Ms. Kati, a beagle, declared.
Frogina wanted to take this chance to tell Stella about the incident that happened in the morning, the ‘unzipped’ lunch bag.
Stella, you know-
Shhh… .
Stella waved her hand and cut Frogina off.
"Make sure you always have a buddy to go together to the washroom or to get a drink. And now, do
