About this ebook

BAD KITTY IS BACK (AND BADDER THAN EVER!)

when she is forced to take a bath in this hysterical new illustrated how-to for young readers. The following are some items you will need for Kitty's bath: one bathtub, plenty of water, dry towels, a suit of armor, a letter to your loved ones, clean underwear (because stressful situations can cause "accidents"), an ambulance in your driveway with the engine running, and, oh, yeah, you'll also need Kitty…but good luck with that! Since its publication in 2005, BAD KITTY has captured the hearts of cat lovers and haters alike. This time Kitty is at her worst in this riotous how-to guide filled with bad smells, cautionary tales of horror, and hopefully by the end…some soap. The funniest of any of Kitty's adventures, though don't tell her that.

Nick Bruel makes reading actually fun! These books make my day. But is this guy really wanted in 37 states? That kind of scares me. But trust me, it’s a great book. It’s a good book for a read aloud for ages 3 to xfinity. So let me end this long review by getting to the point: humans of ALL ages should read these books! Now start reading the book!

I love Bad Kitty stories from Nick Bruel and they are my favourite stories. Funniest thing of all is that cats hate bath and the water that they fish from is little colder than the warm water they have for a bath.

This book is pretty humorous and looks at how cats bathe. Its is challenging to give a cat a bath with soap and water and this book includes facts and other information about it.

I have been very excited to read a Bad Kitty book, as they are so popular with kids currently. I loved all of the humor in this book, especially the uncle's true, quippy facts sprinkled throughout the book. Also, I loved that the books contain a glossary at the end of the book and that this glossary is kept as whimsical as the rest of the book. The pictures in this book really are the story, and LI really appreciated that as well. While this book may not give kids life altering realizations, they are lighthearted and genuinely funny, which are great traits for getting kids to love reading. An easy read that is simply fun, as children's lit should be.

Very funny, written as instructions on bathing a cat. This is a funny book for beginning readers. I would direct a new reader to this book. I might use this for a writing lesson as an example and have the students write a "how to" book.

This is a great book to get kids started to read chapter books. It teaches young readers how to give a kitty a bath with humor and information. The book does a good job of mixing fiction with non-fiction. The story is about a cat that hates taking a bath. I have a cat and I was laughing about the reality, humor and the process of cat bathing. Every child who has a pet will enjoy this book. They will also learn that bad kitty has papillae on her tongue which helps comb her hair and get any loose fur off of her just like we have the same stuff in our fingernails.

This book is funny and educational especially for people who do not know much about cats. It brings the reality of cats to the reader and illustrates exactly what happens with cats in certain situations, very funny. A good read for children and adults.

A hysterical story about Bad Kitty getting a bath. The story is written about cats hating baths, especially if they don't want to get wet and what you will need for a bath (a suit of armor, a goodbye letter to your family, lots of plasma and lots of bandages), how to give a cat a bath and what will happen between you and your cat after giving them a bath. The graphic novel was really funny and the little quips written by Uncle Murray or on the side definitely added to the humor of the situation. Bad Kitty novels/ graphic novels are really easy to read and its hard to not sit and read the whole thing at one time. The stories are split into perfect chapters and is accompanied by a glossary that helps define some vocabulary throughout the book. This is a story I would have out for even beginner readers to just look at and laugh at the illustrations and begin experimenting with reading novels.

This is a fun book to read. It's basically a book about a bad cat bathing, and the chaos that ensues during the process. No worries though, the book, although a fun fictional story, provides a plethora of functional information on the process of cat bathing. the only grip I had with this book is the fact that it was such a fun story, yet it had absolutely no color on any of the pages! It really detracts from the story to be honest. Color would have really supported the story in so many ways.

Great idea to mix non-fiction with fiction. It tells how cat's bathe, about fur-balls, and if needed the correct way to bathe a cat. Also included was what happens when a little boy tries to bathe like a cat. The illustrations were really cute and added to the story immensely. Great intro into cats.

SummaryIt's time for Bad Kitty to get a bath but Bad Kitty doesn't think she needs a bath because Bad Kitty hates baths! Bad Kitty licks her fur to get clean and to comb her fur. Bad Kitty also describes how much she hates water! You learn you have to find kitty, then protect yourself because kitty will be scratching you when you try to give her a bath, but the big reveal is how to get kitty in the water. You have to tell kitty that after she is done then it is dog's turn to enter in the bath. Personal ReactionI love the Bad Kitty books! My sons have always enjoyed all the chapter books, and we just bought a new one call Bad Kitty meet The Baby! We have always read Bad Kitty books including the alphabet book of Bad Kitty digging in the trash. Classroom Extension ideas1. Bad Kitty is a great book to have in you second and on up classes library in your room. Once again kids love to read these "chapter books" and still see all the fun writings and pictures. 2. Bad Kitty books have true facts in them hidden away. In Bad Kitty Gets a Bath, you learn that Kitty has papillae on her tongue which helps comb her hair and get any loose fur off of her. Then it talks about the our fingernails are made out of papillae. You could use this book with science, when talking about parts of cats.

It’s a blustery Sunday, and rather than subject myself to another day stuck inside with my hurricane of a seven year-old, I took him to the bookstore. He’s at that age where even though he reads a few grades ahead of his class, he still likes pictures with his text. The title of Nick Bruel’s book ‘Bad Kitty Gets a Bath,’ immediately attracted him. We have a dog and a cat, neither of whom are particularly well-behaved. My son gets into his share of trouble too, so he gets a perverse pleasure out of seeing our pets (his ‘siblings’) get busted. On Bad Kitty’s back cover is a cute cartoon drawing of a cat, followed by a plus sign, a dripping water faucet, an equal sign, and a nuclear mushroom cloud. Although my son has never been witness to our cat being bathed (we spared him the trauma), the implication was that the bad kitty in question was about to be treated to some kind of punishment. Pet, plus punishment, equaled my son’s interest, so he opened the book and began laughing like a loon two pages in.He continued reading Bad Kitty in the truck on the way home, and finished it over the next hour while crammed in next to me (and my laptop) in the La-Z-Boy. Being settled with his mommy in the chair, despite closer and closer quarters the older he gets (ha, and as middle-age spread settles onto me), is his favorite place to be. Whether he’s playing his Nintendo DS (“Mom! Help me kill this guy!”) or watching cartoons (“Mom! Did you see that?”) or reading (“Mom! Listen to this!”), you can imagine I don’t get a lot of writing done. I’m under constant bombardment of Mom!Mom!Mom! But the number of times he calls my attention to something is generally an accurate barometer of how much he’s enjoying it.Bad Kitty may have set some kind of Mom! record. And despite my many entreaties that he do so silently, he insisted on reading the whole book out loud, including sound-effects. (Well, I had to help him on occasion there. I heard him reading, “Eff. Eff. Tee. Eff. Eff. Tee,” and when I looked to see what on earth he was doing, I saw he was reading the letters off instead of mimicking a kitty spitting in anger, “FFT! FFT!”)You might not think there’s enough material on the subject of giving a cat a bath to write an entire book. You’d be wrong. Author and illustrator Bruel does a fine, funny job stretching it out. First he demonstrates how kitty normally bathes herself. Then we’re treated to several hysterical panels of kitty hacking up a fur ball (this is the part that hooked my son, and me, to be honest). Then kitty gets chased by doggy and gets filthy, followed by a surprising number of pages dedicated to explaining to the reader how very, very, very, very, ad nauseum much cats hate baths. They really do. (No, really.)The actual bath itself, where Bruel depicts kitty being subjected to the worst form of feline indignity and torture, with an instantaneous unequal and similar reaction, captures the event perfectly. (I make this assertion this from what I can recall of the experiences I’ve suffered through. Other than the visible scars, I’ve blanked the worst bits out of my mind—probably to protect my cat from unconscious retaliation—similar to forgetting the pain of childbirth so the species will survive). When I told my son I wanted to write a review of the book for Booksquawk, he watched as I googled Nick Bruel. On the author’s website, we read that Bad Kitty had been awarded a 2009 GRYPHON HONOR for transitional reading by THE CENTER FOR CHILDREN'S BOOKS at the UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS. Of course my son had no idea what that meant, but he waved the book in my face and exclaimed, “Oh, my! This was awarded!”Then he said, “Mom! Put down Bruel’s Bad Kitty Books,” which I took to mean he wanted me to jot down a note to purchase more of Bruel’s stories. So I did.(Review originally posted to Booksquawk)

This is the story of Bad Kitty and what it takes to give her a bath. While there is different tricks Bad Kitty uses to try to get out of her bath, there is also different informational sections to help younger kids learn more about cat behavior.I love this book. Being a cat lover and owner, this is exactly what I go through but with three of them.
