The doghouse debate

RATHER MORE THAN a quarter of a century ago I bought a wooden dog kennel. Manufactured by A Neaverson & Sons Ltd of Peterborough, a company that started making kennels in 1934, it was a good investment.

When I bought it, I had three generations of springers — mother, daughter and granddaughter — and, though they lived in the house, they always went into the kennel when they came back from their morning walk, or whenever we wanted them out of the way.
