    Bring or Take

    The decision on whether to use bring or take seems second nature to adults, but to kids it’s not. And it’s a lot more difficult to understand than you may think; in fact, it’s difficult for some adults to understand.

    The use of bring and take is often compared to the use of come and go, but ponder that. What’s the difference between "Can I come to the mall with you? and Can I go to the mall with you?"

    Bring and Take

    Mama Squeak was already up and out before Punch even woke up. He came running out of the barn with sleep still in his eyes .

    Mom, why didn’t you wake me? It’s late.

    I thought you must have needed the rest, Punch, so I let you catch a few extra hours of sleep.

    That’s nice, Mom, but you should have waked me.

    Squeak squinted and stared at Punch. "You mean woken don’t you?"

    Waked, woken. What difference does it make? They both mean get me up. Punch laughed. Whether you waked me or woken me, I’d still be up.
