    Tree Trilogy - Sherry Wyne

    SEEING MEN AS TREES

    ...for as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people,.. Isaiah 65:22 (NIV)

    God has a thing for trees! He spoke them into existence on the third day of creation and it's been a love affair ever since. He loves them in the seeding and as they're taking root, He loves them as they grow from vine to tender plant, He loves them when they're young, green and full of sap, He loves them when they start to bud, He loves them in the blossoming that brings forth flowers and fruit, He loves them when they're standing straight and tall, He loves them when they're swaying wildly in the wind, He loves them when their leaves are drifting gently to the ground, He loves them when they're bent and bowed over by snow and He loves them still when they are old, stripped to the bark and dying. Yes, God has a thing for trees, so much so that He described His beloved Son as every part of a tree in the Bible!

    Seed;

    "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made.

    He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one,

    And to thy seed, which is Christ." Galatians 3:16

    Root;

    And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. Revelation 5:5

    Vine;

    I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. St. John 15:1

    Plant;

    For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground: he hath no form or comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. Isaiah 53:2

    Branch;

    In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. Jeremiah 33:15

    Green Tree;

    For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry? Luke 23:31

    First-fruit;

    But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 1 Corinthians 15:20

    I suspect that the only rivals trees have for God's affections are...you and I! Mankind and trees are divinely connected, each kept alive through a symbiotic relationship; we breath out - the tree takes in, the tree expels - we inhale. We can't live without each other because God designed our lives to be intertwined as long as this earth exists. Numerous Scriptures refer to and parallels mankind with trees; we are trees of righteousness, we're like a tree planted by the waters, we are the trees of His forest, our children are as olive plants and the list goes on and on. On the other hand there are several times when God's Word gives trees human characteristics. For instance, trees of the field shall clap their hands, trees of the wood rejoice, they sing for joy and in one story the trees went forth to anoint a king over them. Additionally, there are many parables where trees are used figuratively to teach or admonish mankind. God sees His beloved trees with certain natural abilities and characteristics but how does He see us?

    "And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and
