About this ebook

We went on vacation to fix what was wrong between us, not make them worst. I didn't realize that the problem wasn't really us, it was her. Only her. How was I to know I married someone capable of such heinous things? She was so timid and shy when we met. Did she even know she was doing it?! Is this why she never really liked the outdoors? Even though she would tell me camping stories from when she was a child. The most important question I never asked and should have is: Why was she so animate to not go to the George Washington National Forest?
Anywhere else for vacation seemed fine with her, except there. It seemed like was forcing her to re-live something she wanted to forget. I should have listened to my gut feeling, especially after we got there. I should have packed up everything and went home instead of ignoring the dangers, including my lover showing up, hoping I could fix my marriage. How many of those people did she put in our food? How did I not make the connection? The forest was locked down and we were the only ones with fresh meat almost every day.

    Chapter 1

I always wanted to see the George Washington National Forest in Virginia. It has 82 trails, camping, fishing, wildlife, a waterfall and lake to name a few things you can experience. I had to talk my girlfriend into coming with me, she isn’t a very big outdoorsy kind of person. She was always worried about something bad happening. I would joke with her about leaving the dress, and high heels at home. She loves horror movies, and the women in dresses and high heels always seem to die early in the movies. I jokingly told her she would be fine, if left them at home.

She asked me to promise her that everything would be fine. This is a National Park for Pete’s sake. What could possibly go wrong? She finally agrees to go with me. The plan is to stay three or four weeks, so we had time to hike most of the trails, do some fishing and take pictures of the waterfall. As we drove from Pennsauken, New Jersey to Virginia she was starting to like the adventure we were on. This trip is the first time she has ever been outside of New Jersey, that I know of. She looked so beautiful staring out the window taking in scenery, as we passed it at 65 miles per hour. She didn’t even want to stop for food. She wanted to get to the National Forest to see its beauty.

I had to make her eat, even though it was only a little, every time we stopped. She was excited about the trip now. It was a big change from when I first asked her to come with me. We finally get to the George Washington National Forest. We find the camping area. We are really roughing it.

I get the tent out the back of the truck. I start putting it up as she gets the propane cooktop, table top charcoal grill, sleeping bags and the coolers out the truck. I get the tent up, and help her lay out the sleeping bags. We set up the cooktop and grill together. I get the chairs out of the truck, and she gets our bag of clothes.

We have a fire pit on our campsite. I get the bundles of wood we brought, out the bed of the truck, for a campfire later that night. We get some bottled water and protein bars out of one of the coolers. We put them in a backpack, as well as a travel first aid kit. That was Sally’s idea. I thought it was silly. I’m glad we have it now, though it isn’t helping much. We walked down one of trails, we used a map of the trails to figure out which one was the shortest one. Yes, we put that in the backpack as well. We have a compass in there too, in case we get turned around.

She is looking at all the scenery, which is beautiful. She sees so many birds, that she hasn’t seen before. She gets so excited when she sees something new. I think
