PROLOGUE
The music started, and everybody had a great time. We danced and we ate. Of course, Branny and I spoke and got to know each other better. On the other hand, Caroline spoke to Aubrey, the school’s broadcaster, throughout the whole night to know more of the new up-to-date news.
This ‘was’ the best day. But where was Elisha?
CHAPTER 1
Updating News!
I woke up on a gloomy morning. It looked like it was going to rain. People used to tell me that I was a crepehanger at times because I think every day is a gloomy day, but it was quite obvious. Gloomy days in Deli Town is not a good sign. Deli people will already know that there will be no electricity if it continues to the afternoon that day, which has not happened in days. Summer days are not supposed to be like this.
Caroline sent me a text. (Caroline is my BFF, a nosy person, and loves broadcasting.)
Are you doing anything for summer?
That is a good question. I hope we’re traveling.
I showered, dressed, and went downstairs.
Hi, Stepmom… So about summer… are we going anywhere?
I said as I sat down on a high chair, looking at her washing dishes.
Savannah… look outside… What do you see?
she questioned as she turned.
I did not know what she meant. Obviously, there was a gloomy sky. I think it was quite obvious, but I guess she still wanted me to tell her.
A gloomy morning,
I said.
Good. It’s morning, right?
she asked dumbly.
Umm… yeah, it is,
I said perplexed. I really don’t know where this is going to at all.
Isn’t there something you’re supposed to say in the morning?
she said as her face went inflamed.
I still don’t get the memo… Hold on… I know! Good morning… Duh!
Yeah… good morning… but are we traveling?
I asked.
Savannah… you just don’t get it do you? You’re always supposed to say good morning to someone that is older than you,
she complained.
So-rry. I did not mean it that way,
I said.
You always don’t mean it ‘that way,’ Savannah… Anyway, we’re going to see your new father in Los Angeles,
she said as she took her apron off.
You’re getting married or what?
I said puzzled.
I know it’s quite time for her to get married, but this is last minute, and I HATE last-minute stuff. Plus, I don’t know anything about him or what he does for a living.
Yes, I am, in Los Angeles, in a month or two. We’re going to arrive there tomorrow,
she said
