I’ll never forget the day my girlfriend’s daughter, Sally, talked me into letting her friend Sheila spend the summer.

Please, Jason. With Mom going to Japan with her boss, it’s gonna be so quiet around here. Your job has you in and out all hours and it’ll just be me here. She doesn’t eat much and I promise we’ll clean up after ourselves. Please? I hardly see her since she moved away. Then she pouted, with those sad blue eyes, and she knows I can’t tell her no when she does that—so I agreed.
