Aftermath

About this ebook
Choice is a guiding principle of life. One where the end result is not always limited to the fortunes of one individual. In modern society, choice has become a source of conflict. It has divided families, friends and even nations. It has even led some to adopt causes designed to deny other groups the option of choice. Aftermath is a poetic rendition of the consequence of choice. The poems in this book are designed to take readers on personal, social, emotional and political journey through the fallout of life-changing events and decisions.
Lynn Daniels
Lynn Daniels is retired, with hours and hours to write the next great novel. Worlds come alive in my head, characters stand over her shoulder, and sometimes they wake her up at night. All of them want to come alive, to have their stories written. No matter how she thinks the story should go, it goes according to how the character decides it should. An evil character finds redemption. A beloved character is massacred for no good reason. They all write their own stories. The ideas come to her, the character develops a personality, and the result is a book. She sincerely hopes that everyone will love her books, but she knows that what she writes isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. She simply wants to bring life and color into the world through the pages of her books. Every time someone buys a book, or leaves a review, she's delightfully surprised. She offers her eternal gratitude to all of you, for reading what she has written, and allowing her to become a small part of your life.

Aftermath - Lynn Daniels
One year after the fact
One year after the freedom
No chance to break away from the pain
No chance to properly heal
One year after the fact
One year after the reveal
Too hard to suppress circumstance
Too hard to start brand new
One year after the fact
One year after rock bottom
Identity remains lost in the darkness
Identity remains mischaracterized
Standing in the Same Place
There will always be an urge to look to the past
And repeat it
Words that made no sense yesterday
Are much clearer today
It takes time to mull over things
And revisit old thoughts
Trying to find answers
To still burning questions
Because life changed so much,
Yet it didn't change at all
Made It through Hell
One more day
One more chance
To put words on a sheet of paper
To let long-stifled ideas out in the open
I'll always remember the day when this journey began
I'll always remember the day when it almost came to an end
The past cries out
Begging to be heard
Pleading to be seen
The present pauses
Frozen in time
Stuck in place
The future remains out of reach
Dreams remain invisible
Looking forward remains unclear
Inside the Writer's Mind
Kick around a few ideas today
One of them seemed brilliant
That one solid breakthrough to turn everything around
Build the plan
Set it in motion
See it fizzle out
Life hates to be structured
Fate brings hope back down to Earth
The one great idea didn't work out too well
Second guesses filter in
Questioning the motivation to stick around
Walking away seems imminent
Kick around a few ideas
