    Angela was unhappy.

She wasn't supposed to be unhappy. She was the only daughter of the richest man in the entire village, a man who had the respect of everyone far and wide. She had three older brothers who looked after her and made sure that nothing bad happened to her. And her father had just told her that in a month's time, she was going to be married off to another rich man, a merchant from a nearby village, who would take care of her and make sure that she never wanted for anything in the world.

    And yet, Angela was unhappy.

It wasn't that she didn't like the man, but she didn't know him. Her father had promised her that everything was absolutely all right and that there wouldn't be any concerns about it. She had died when Angela was only a baby, too young to remember, but she heard her father's stories of what a wonderful woman she had been.

Her mother and her father had loved one another very much, or so Angela had always been told. They had started out together with nothing and built both a family and a comfortable life. And that was how Angela had always imagined herself, meeting a man and falling in love with him. There were several boys her own age in the village that she had dreamed of falling in love with, handsome and strong young men who made her feel a little weak in her knees when they looked at her.

And now she had had all those hopes ended by her father's announcement.

Angela wasn't mad at him. She knew he was only doing what he thought was best for her, to take care of her for her life. He couldn't know how that had crushed her dreams.

So she had thanked him politely and kissed her on the cheek before going out on a walk by the seaside. She loved to walk up and down the rocky coast like this, letting the spray blow against her cheeks. There was nothing
