About this ebook

Once upon a time, a young woman was trapped in a tower...

Rapunzel grew up in a life of solitude, her only contact with the outside world the old witch who holds her prisoner. Now a woman, the untouched maiden comforts herself with the pleasure of her own touch, wistfully dreaming of what it would be like to share herself with another.

When Prince Gregory spies Rapunzel in the window of her tower, shamelessly bare beneath the light of the full moon, he knows he must have this beautiful vision for his own. He tricks Rapunzel into letting down her golden hair, allowing him to climb into the tower and claim her innocence. Enraptured by the prince, Rapunzel conceals her newfound love as long as she can, but it is only a matter of time before her belly, swelling with Gregory's child, gives their secret away.

But the witch will not give up her golden treasure so easily...

Rapunzel sat in her tower's single window, gazing out over the forest to the mountains in the distance. As she sat, she brushed a section of her long, golden hair, which coiled around her slender body like a dragon might coil around its hoard of gems. Rapunzel spent hours each day tending her hair, but she didn't mind; she had little else to amuse her in her isolated home, and without the yards and yards of her endlessly-growing hair, Mother would have no way to visit her and bring her companionship for a few hours.

Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair! Her mother's voice drifted up from the base of the tower, rough with age. Rapunzel quickly tied off the end of her braid and dropped it over the edge of the windowsill; it fell down and down the sheer stone wall, finally landing with a thump on the ground below, and Rapunzel felt the slight tug as her mother began climbing up to her.

Old she might be, but Mother was still spry despite her wrinkled skin and harsh voice, and she quickly climbed into the tower, seizing Rapunzel in a tight embrace. How are you, my dear girl? she asked, patting Rapunzel's cheek. You look well, you look well.

It was a ritual to their visits, and Rapunzel smiled as she drew her hair up, coiling it over her arm. I am well, Mother, she said brightly, for though she was sometimes lonely, she was seldom unhappy. She looked at the basket looped over her mother's arm. What have you brought me this time? And do you have any stories to tell of the world outside?

Rapunzel hungered for the world beyond her tower, though her mother often reminded her that it wasn't safe
