Knitting for Beginners: Amazing Step by Step Instructions on How to Start Knitting and Make Beautiful Patterns
()
About this ebook
Knitting used to be considered an old lady’s pastime, but not anymore! In this day and age, with so many discount stores around, people have taken to purchasing ready-made knitwear instead of making their own, which is such a shame, as nothing looks, feels and lasts as good as homemade knitwear. And it doesn’t just have to be clothing. You could knit all sorts of things – blankets, bags, serviette holders, socks…the options are endless. With a few starting tips and techniques you can start knitting your own creations with little cost and lots of fun. Another added advantage to knitting your own items is that you are in control over what colors you choose, and what patterns or stitch styles you wish to knit. It’s also a great winter hobby for those cold nights at home. And in no time at all, you could be sitting there snuggled up in your homemade afghan, wearing your own designed beanie, and knitting a pair of socks.

Knitting for Beginners - Heather Garza
Introduction
Knitting has come to be a bit of a dying art form, but it really shouldn’t be. It is a fabulous way to provide hours of entertainment resulting in a reward you not only can be proud of, but also is useful and enjoyable. It’s even something you could do with a group of friends as a social gathering perhaps.
There are hundreds and hundreds of knitting patterns available. Some you can get for free online, others you have to pay for. And if you join a knitting group, often patterns will be shared around which cuts down your costs. The added advantage of a knitting group is that if you get stuck, there is always someone you can ask for help.
When you first start knitting, don’t be surprised if you make a few mistakes. It can take a while to get used to holding the needles and maneuvering the stitches. Reading patterns also takes a bit of skill, so look for basic patterns to start with and work your way up. The glossary and abbreviations in this book are handy to keep close by in case you come across a term you don’t recognize.
Once you have mastered the basics of knitting, you can start to look for more adventurous projects to take on. This could be something that is on a large scale or simply has more technical or complex stitches. Eventually you will be able to make up your own patterns, mixing and matching different components of different patterns.
Yarn is also referred to as wool in many places, whereas in some areas, wool only refers to yarn made from animal fibers. Often a pattern will say to use a particular yarn or wool, but really you can choose for yourself what you want to knit with. It will depend on the weight of the yarn, the thickness, and whether you want something for everyday use, in which case you would be better to use acrylic yarns. And the colors are endless! Too many times when you look at knitwear in the stores, it is all knitted in much the same colors. When you knit for yourself you can have it in any color you choose. Or multiple colors, whatever takes your fancy. Multicolored yarns are a neat yarn to knit with as they create really amazing patterns just in color, without the need for fancy stitches. A great way to showcase your own fashion style and
