Author

Cedric Scott, Jr

Cedric Scott, Jr. was born and raised in the inner-city of Pittsburgh, PA. He grew up with five siblings, who were raised primarily by his single father after the untimely death of their mother. Her passing at the tender age of thirty-three shook the family at its core, but they managed to get through due to the strength of their father and connectedness. It was around this time that he began writing poetry. Cedric strived to uphold his mother's teachings and ideals regarding the importance of education and hard work. Upon graduating, with honors, from Perry Traditional Academy in 2008, he attended Virginia State University. In 2012, Cedric graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in Chemistry. After a brief stint as a Professional Chemist, he became an elementary Mathematics and Enrichment teacher in the Washington, DC area. Cedric currently still resides there with his loving wife, Andrea.

    The War Within

    By Cedric D. Scott, Jr.

    SPECIAL THANKS

I would like to thank everyone that ever supported my passion for writing, all of the world’s free thinkers, and every person that I consider family.

    This is for you all.

Dedicated to the loving memory of my mother, Julia.

Scream falsehoods and they take heed, whisper truths and they don't believe…

    Thoughts of a Numb Conscience

Welcome to the inner hollows of my existence

for now and forever you are a witness

    all purpose, no coincidence

Welcome to the thoughts of a numb conscience

    Shockwaves through the brain

    meet the verge of insane

    from struggling against the grain

to becoming well acquainted with pain

What is it when pure essence is punctured?

the mind only begins to wonder

why certain things seem to plunder

noticing that the truth has taken you under

And in the midst of all of this

one grabs hold, feet firm, not to slip

numb to the fact that you are the sinking ship

in some worldwide phenomena like the solar eclipse

Welcome to the inner hollows of my existence

for now and forever you are a witness

    all purpose, no coincidence

Welcome to the thoughts of a numb conscience

    Natural Disaster

Bones tremble as the world begins to quake.

Fear becomes enhanced, bearing witness as the levees break.

It could be on purpose, or equally by mistake.

Not knowing is simply a part of the wrath we cannot shake.

Harnessing lost ideas and forgotten memories.

Uneasy and unsettled as the leaves of shivering trees.

Heavy inhalation in desperate attempts to breathe.

    Free Mind, Free Me

They say that the mind is a terrible thing to waste

And I would have to be in agreeance

Repression of one’s intellectual altitude has become so common

So, the modern day idiot could unknowingly be a genius

In my eyes, wasted talent is the worst thing in the world

Yet it is nearly as common as our ignorance

So much lost in the rapture of foolishness

In an ongoing struggle to find
