About this ebook

In all ugliness, beauty lies within, representing individuals like you and me, who are willing to look deep inside ourselves to admit the truth about the ugliness in us. Do not only admit it, but address it where it demonstrates strength and strong will to overcome lifes challenges without making excuses. Everyone knows that life can be unfair at times; the question is, during the midst of it, how are we going to react?
Usually, in the face of adversity, one is defined in character. This book expresses a lot of heartache, as well as triumph. I am hoping that my readers will embrace the essence of its beauty although shown in darkness because all can relate. At some point or another, life has hit you with uncertainty; the fact that you are reading this book proves your triumph over lifes setbacks. I am proud of you.
Within these pages, I have tried to reveal the reality of bondage in its true form then turned it around for beauty for the sole propose of saving other peoples lives through awareness. If I can turn ugliness into art through creative writing, then there are no limits to what you can do; just do humbly, and loveliness and grace will beseech you and everything you set your hearts to do in life will prosper.

    Dedication

I would like to dedicate my book to all my readers for taking the time to hear my voice. You are my reflection. The loudspeakers in my head that inspire me to think, arise, and come forth all you shining stars of the future. Come share in my glory while I share in your victories. Travel this journey with me that we may learn from one another that love and beauty are not just words, but are complete transformations, changing one life at a time.

I also would like to voice that my son, Kevin, who is crippled in body, but not in mind. He gives new meaning to the word peace. Anyone who dares to look beyond his sickness will birth new life into their soul. You cannot be in his presence and not know that God exists. I am grateful to be his mother; he has taught me and is still teaching me better than any scholar whom I have encountered in all my years of education.

Many have touched me throughout my life, but there are three people who have bear witness to my suffering and carried my cross when I was unable to. Maraca Spivak, my high school counselor, was like a second mother to me, always in my business. Then Nancy Ring, she, on the other, was my physicist, but more like a mentor to keep me on the straight and narrow. I bless the day I met her for she opened my mind to understanding that life is what you make of it and no longer can one place blame on another but must hold their self accountable for their actions. Once that is acknowledged, life has to play by your rules, even if situations do not go as expected.

Last but not least is my mom, Coral Denis Fonseca; she is the silent voice hammering at the nails that held me down in life. She is my twin in the sense that both of our hearts were scarred. I learned simplicity through the eyes of my mom, by her innocence to the ugliness of this world. She sees no evil; she looks at all persons as one. Mirrors that break lose their reflection. I have never seen my mom’s mirror break. Life disrespected her in that it kept taking and never giving back. One may say it was her choices; another may say she was dealt a bad hand to play. I say it was fate so that I could be the woman that I am today.

I would like to thank everybody for giving me the opportunity to make this happen.

    Foreword

I am honored and privileged to be given this torch to present to you my ideas on the work done by Debra Fonseca. As a woman, she is beautiful; as a mother, she is heaven-sent; and as a mentor, she is real and down-to-earth, always finding ways to make life bearable, not just for herself but for all people. Education gave her the authority to view life’s matters in an artistic way through her writings. I have learned so much from her.

In the short time I have known Debra Fonseca, I am intrigued by her passion for living. She had encountered much abuse, yet she was able to find rest and peace in God through church. The way she envisions beauty in this ugly world amazes me. I consider her to be a courageous woman, someone you can trust. She never made excuses for her hard life growing up; instead, her will to defeat it empowered me in life. How she cares for her son, Kevin, is an inspiration to all mothers who care for children with special needs. She is the type of person who will take a dark cloud hanging over your head and make it white so that the sun would shine. I describe her as a smart but funny, fantastic mother that if I were given the opportunity, I would ask her to marry. But this is not about me—this is about her. She surrounds
