Smoke Brisket Like a Pro - Veronica Burke
Introduction
Cooking a brisket doesn’t have to be complicated. You will want to take your time to make sure you get the taste you want but over a period of time, you will develop your own techniques, your favorite tastes and your own style. You will find a lot of recipes with a variety of tastes to make a brisket to die for.
Some of the equipment you will need to make a good smoked brisket is a smoker grill, preferably with a chimney and offset firebox, an oven thermometer, a spray bottle so that you can apply the mop, rubber insulated gloves or two pairs of tongs to allow you to turn large briskets from one side to the other, a foil drip pan to hold water under the brisket and a meat thermometer. For a reasonably sized brisket, you should set aside about 15 minutes to prepare it and 8 hours to cook it. These times will vary depending on the size of the brisket, the type of recipe you are using, the size of your smoker and more.
Your smoker will also have its own instructions. Be sure to check these details so that you prepare your smoker properly. Choose the kind of wood you like the most and try different types until you find your preference. The wood you use should be about 8 months old and dry all the way through.
In our book, we provide you with a few flavorful mops, sweet tastes, spicy recipes and more. You should always try different kinds until you find one you like the most. If you find there is an ingredient in the recipe you plan to make that you don’t care for or are allergic to, try substituting something you do like. There’s a good chance you will successfully craft your own recipe by doing this.
You can use an oven to smoke your brisket but your best bet is with a grill that has an offset firebox. These are excellent for providing the best temperature and heat control.
