About this ebook

Madison Avery, a divorcee nearing forty, is hesitant to get back into the dating scene until she meets David Mayers, a much younger man, through an online dating site. He is kind of on the nerdy side, but she doesn’t mind. However, there is one problem—David is a devout “mama’s boy,” who still lives with his overbearing mother while he goes to college.

At first, she doesn’t feel this is a deal breaker, especially since her ex was a bit of a “mama’s boy” himself with an overbearing mother of his own. But then she has a nasty first meeting with David’s mother, Debbie, and she begins to wonder if their relationship is worth the trouble, especially given their age difference. However, Madison discovers she has true feelings for David.

Will she find a way they can be together in spite of his overbearing mother and make him cut the apron strings once and for all?

    Chapter One

Madison Avery, a divorcee nearing forty, had recently separated from her husband Bill Tanner whom she had been married to since they were both eighteen. They split amicably and felt no animosity toward each other. They just drifted apart to the point where they felt they were at different points in their lives and needed to explore other avenues.

Bill—whose real name was William but everyone just called him Bill—was a self-made millionaire, though he was already born into money as his family owned their own oil business, Tanner Oil, in the town of Frankson, Texas. Bill’s father Douglas wanted him to go into the family business, but Bill wanted to be his own man and not so dependent on his family. Madison always admired him for that. So, after graduating, he married Madison, his high school sweetheart, and they both moved out to Los Angeles, California where Bill became a successful real estate developer and Madison became a well-known socialite. Madison also started her own business that her husband Bill funded; a consignment shop called Madi’s Corner—Madi being her husband’s nickname for her—that specialized in women’s fashion, which was something Madison knew quite a bit about judging from the size of her walk-in closet at home. Madison didn’t make a fortune from her little consignment shop, but it was something she loved. Plus, she made enough to keep the doors open as it was quite popular with the local women.

Bill gave Madison a very generous divorce settlement that she could live comfortably on the rest of her life if she chose to do so. Bill decided to go back to Texas, since his father was in failing health and he needed him to run the family oil business. Madison remained in LA, since she really had no family to speak of in Texas or, at least, no family that she wanted to be a part of. Madison’s parents had died in a plane crash when she was six years old. She was shipped off from one relative to the next and could always tell they didn’t really want her living with them. So she never felt that sense of familial closeness that Bill felt with his own family. She always envied him for that. But that was okay for her. She had built a pretty sociable life for herself in LA with a number of good friends.

After the divorce, Madison decided to start dating again, although the only man she ever dated seriously in her life was in fact, Bill. Bill had a bit more experience with dating other girls before he popped her the question, though not too much more. Neither one of them ever had a chance to sow their wild oats, as they say, and Madison was really itching to do so.

She also suspected that Bill likewise wanted to sow his own wild oats.

The problem was, Madison wasn’t entirely sure how to start dating again. It had been so long since she had been on an actual date. The girl she had working at her shop, a nineteen-year-old named Tami who was working her way through cosmetology school, suggested that she try online dating. Madison was resistant to the idea at first due to horror stories she heard of women who met a tragic fate after meeting up with someone they’d met online. Tami assured her it was no more dangerous than meeting a stranger at a singles bar. So, still feeling reluctant, Madison relented and decided to let Tami help her set up a dating profile for her on a dating site. Tami found a dating site she felt was appropriate for Madison called CougarMatch.com which was a site devoted to older women dating younger men. At first, Madison felt a little insulted by Tami’s choice of dating site for her, but Tami assured her it was a compliment.

You’re a sexy cougar! Tami assured her.

It was true. Madison still turned heads with her statuesque ’five foot eight inch frame, voluptuous breasts, and long blonde hair. So, again, Madison relented and allowed Tami to put up her dating profile on this site. Tami helped Madison upload a profile picture, along with all her likes and dislikes and miscellaneous information the site asked her to post—which was pretty frivolous overall.

Madison wasn’t really expecting much from posting her profile to this site. That is, until she started getting quite a few responses. She perused the profiles of the men who responded mostly out of curiosity. Some were pretty normal looking while others she could tell were the typical bad boy type with their tattoos and their disheveled look and whatnot. If there was one type of guy Madison didn’t want to have any part of it was the bad boy type. She had heard too many horror stories from some of the women who came to her shop about their horrible relationships with these so-called bad boys. She even came into contact with one of these bad boys.

A few years before her divorce, the girl who was working at her shop, Angela, was dating a self-professed bad boy named Johnny.
