    `

Hi! I’m Zachary Soto. My friends call me Zach for short, which is okay by me. I’m the second child with three sisters. Yes, please, feel sorry for me. My sisters love to torture me, in the worst way possible.

It’s tough being the second-born, but when you have your trusty laser sword, you can rule the galaxy. Including your sisters who know how to annoy the heck out of you.

I guess you can say I’m hooked on Space Wars. It’s the only outlet for my dad and me. In fact, we are counting down the days to the second movie of Space Wars, The Battle of Bavin. It’s going to be awesome! Dad pre-ordered our movie tickets the minute he got the email notification. Not to mention, we’ve already pre-ordered the game, which comes out the week after the movie does.

When I’m not playing Space Wars, you can find me at my school, Seaside Lower Grade. Population: three hundred and three. We’re the home of the fierce piranhas. Sharp and powerful. Although you won't find any piranhas in the Texas, it does sound cool.

Lower, middle, and upper grade are all located on one big campus. Convenient, as my mom would say, but boring if you ask me. But when you live in a town with a population under ten thousand, everything is close by and convenient.

In the small town of Seaside, Texas, everyone knows each other, and I’m no exception. Especially since my dad is the pastor of Seaside Church. Being the pastor’s son can be a little daunting at times. I tend to make bad decisions, not on purpose, of course. What can I say? I’m a ten-year-old kid trying to walk with God and avoid making mistakes along the way. But I’m only human.

I do have some good qualities. For instance, that's me.

Last year, I threw the winning shot that won our school the area basketball championship for lower grades. A trophy hadn’t been won in more than ten years, but I changed that. I call it luck because I’m really not that good at basketball. My dad says it isn’t not about being the best, but trying my best. I guess it worked.

So, this past summer, I asked my parents to sign me up for basketball camp at the recreation center in Houston, and they agreed. It was a little tougher than I thought, and most, if not all, of the kids were better than I was. But I was determined not to give up. I went every day, learned what I could, and practiced a lot.

In fact, I was really looking forward to fifth grade and playing basketball again. All that changed on the first day of school when I found out Coach Barnes took a job at a bigger school somewhere in North Texas. Dad said it was a great move for him and his family. Maybe so, but things just aren’t the same without him.

Coach Barnes made PE fun and exciting. We used to compete in dodge ball tournaments, do relays with scooter boards,
