With no way to stop the meteor, Revelation are forced to watch as the meteor destroys an entire city. Upon arrival, Lucas and his friends find out that the meteor that destroyed the city was in fact not a meteor at all. S weat dripping down my nose. My throat was dry as sawdust. I continued to push forward even though my heart was crunching in my ears. I bet you think I’m off saving the world as u sual.

    Not this time!

This time, I was slamming an orange combination of synthetic rubber and leather into the ground. The word ‘Spalding’ on the side with my sweaty fingers slipping off the ball.

I stood only nineteen ft. away from the net, just outside the three point line.

I pulled the ball back over my head and released it into the air. Austin jumped as high as he could, trying to smack the ball to safety but it was out of his reach.

The ball bumped off the back board and collapsed through the mesh net.

    And that’s how it’s done. I teased.

Coach Francis blew his whistle frantically while closing his eyes and straining his forehead.

Alright lads, let’s call it a day. Great practice everyone!

Andrew gripped my hand in a half high five, half man hug shake.

Dude that last shot was insane, Luke!

    It was okay! I admitted.

Yeah! Shut up and take the freaking compliment. Austin joked.

He placed his hand on my shoulder giving me the benefit of the doubt.

I never thought I would ever say this but you’re getting better and I didn’t think that was possible.

Thanks bud. And I didn’t even use my abilities.

We dunno that for sure. Maybe you just discovered a way to use your powers without your eyes changing.

    Don’t I wish?

    Luke, come here! Coach called.

I gave the guys the go ahead to hit the showers while I walked over to Coach Francis, well after that work out, it was more like crawled over.

I wasn’t sure my legs would be able to hold me up much longer.

We hardly ever practiced on a Saturday but we decided as a team that the only way we would be better than the Lost Angels was to add an extra training session to our schedule.

I had to find a balance with my body having two types of strengths, two levels of everything!

The General has been pushing us so hard to get stronger, faster, just plain better than we are. At first I didn’t understand his theory but the improvements literally speak for themselves, so who am I to oblige.

By now I know that this is not because the General wants more bonding time with us. He’s preparing us, for what it feels like I will never know!

Even so, it’s been too long since the last time we got to use our abilities in the real world. All we get these days is simulation of any scenario we like but it’s not the same.

Don’t get me wrong, we have had a few missions, every now and then. We saved some whales from an oil spill in the middle of the Pacific and rescued a dozen squatters from a crumbling building. We got to kick some serious tale with a bunch of pirates commandeering a private yacht and kidnapping passengers, but the challenge that I’m yearning for just doesn’t come. The last time I broke a sweat was… well, it was seven months ago when I fought Nicholas. I didn’t fear him anymore. It wasn’t like last year when I always had him at the back of my mind, trying to kill me in my dreams!

As I made my way over to Coach Francis, I noticed he was aging quite quickly. He was still a proud man with a heart of steel and the will of a predator.

We were four months into the new year but we hadn’t played one competitive match. Not even a friendly. The reason was because a few college basketball rules were being amended and competitive basketball could not continue until the new laws were passed.

It would be another whole year before we got our shot at the Lost Angels again.

No matter! Whenever that day comes… we will be ready.

    Hey Coach. What’s up?

Not much Luke just wanted to find out how you were doing. How’s the team doing, that sort of thing. I know they’ve been a little restless since last year’s defeat. It’s not a good feeling when you come so close only to lose it in the end.

I paused, still trying to catch my breath from the training.

I’m good, you know… sort of normal for a change. The teams doing great, really coming together. Do you know when we’re gonna play a game?

I can’t say that much just yet but I know the law is probably going to be passed in the week. I heard some rumours of a college tournament with a few twists to celebrate the passing of the new rules.

Well that’s great! I mean I don’t think we care what the twists are so long as we get to play… competitively!

Well I dunno the details but I can guarantee that you’ll, be playing some competitive ball before the months out!

    Yes! Finally. I exclaimed.

I jogged back to the showers and cleaned myself up before pulling on a blue faded jean, a white vest and my grey Moscow jacket.

I stepped back into the change room. Andrew was tying his shoe laces while Austin was having the protein shake Coach gave us.

Yuk! This taste like Nesquick on steroids! He bellowed.

Well you’re not gonna believe this but Coach Francis just said that we might finally get a game in the next few weeks.

    Are you serious? Austin said.

Hell yeah! It’s about damn time the terrible trio opened up a can of whip ass on someone. Andrew added.

    I smiled.

By the way dude. Are you okay? I kinda tackled you a little harder than I expected. Andrew said.

I held my hand against my ribs which were still a little bruised and sensitive since the hot shower.

I’m not gonna lie, it hurt a little. I admitted.

Where are you guys heading? I added.

Well Julie-Ann and Jason rented a movie so we’re thinking of heading back to the Basement and joining the rest of the group, and you?

I pulled my kit bag over my shoulder and gripped my car keys with my free hand.

I… am going home to my gorgeous wife.

I forgot, you’re an old timer now! Andrew teased.

Whatever guys. I’m gonna bounce, I’ll catch up with you later. Say hello to everyone for me!

I left the locker room leaving my two best friends behind me, along with a few other players stinging one another with wet towels.

The campus was completely empty and that was quite a big deal, considering we were halfway through the second semester. I had made the transition from Freshman to Sophomore and was now a Junior.

It sounded like I was still a baby in college terms but the only other level that was left to take was Senior and even that was now less than a year away.

I walked across the court and out the side hallway. I entered the main hallway heading for the entrance, passing the Dean’s office on the way out.

When I arrived here this morning around ten, the sky was powder blue with puffy white clouds that looked like cotton candy in the sky.

The blistering sun was leaning down on me, which was not normal considering I lived in Alpena.

If you don’t know where that is, simple! Go past Detroit through North Michigan into the Thunder Bay national state forest and you’re here.

The little town of Alpena North Michigan, where supposedly nothing happens.

For the better part of my life I believed that statement, then I grew up and went to college and my life changed forever. Over two and a half years ago, I got a scholarship to Roman City College. It’s not Harvard or Stanford but it’s still one of the best private colleges in the United States. My mum died when I was a little younger and ever since then my dad had to support the two of us on his bank balance alone. Needless to say that money was an object and I didn’t have my choice of any campus I wanted. But I have a talent, my own secret weapon. I’m five ft five which makes me short compared to most men my age.

But I can play basketball, really play basketball. As in highest scoring three pointer in college basketball for the last two years in a row!

    Yeah, that good!

So when the RCC sent me a scholarship letter saying I could come and study whatever I wanted for four years, as long as I played basketball, I didn’t say no.

Roman City Campus was even more spectacular than I pictured it to be. What was even more breath taking was the fact that the campus sent their Freshmen on an all expenses paid trip to Rome.

At this point you would think that life couldn’t get any better but then we get there and I realise that my best friend’s girlfriend, Rachael is way too inquisitive for her own good. A wall is just a wall to any random person but not Rachael.

No, Rachael had to explain that it’s got the Holy Trinity with Greek writing and an Indian sword sculpted into a wall three thousand years old in Rome?

Apparently that didn’t make sense to her and she was right because moments later the wall opened up and we were in a ritual room performing an ancient ritual that released the Power of Six.

At first I didn’t understand what this meant but to break it down in simple English, the six of us were blessed with special supernatural abilities bestowed on us from the gods of the Nations.

I thought life couldn’t get any more complicated until the UN who requested us to assist them with special missions, took my blood to try and make more super-beings, like me.

This went wrong of course! It always does. You would have thought that by now they would have learnt from all the movies they’d seen!

    But no!

Instead they created Liston and Eliza, siblings of destruction. They were the best of the best when it came to the UN’s soldiers. Last year in the heat of battle both of them were killed. But they were not our only equal. They were led by the best soldier to ever come out of the United Nations Security Council defence force. Nicholas! Eliza’s true love and my greatest nemesis. After putting him in a maximum security volt he escaped, but during our fight last year I could have sworn I ended his life. I was mistaken!

He’s still alive and now in a prison within a UN compound. Unlike before, now I’m not even allowed to see him anymore.

So like I said, the little town of Alpena North Michigan, where supposedly nothing happens… yeah right!

I walked out into the parking lot and it was just as empty now as it was when I got here. The air was moist and husky. I felt short of breath even though I hadn’t broken a sweat. The clouds were grey and it looked like another storm was brewing. That would be storm number three just this week alone, but I guess that’s what you get from living in a town filled with rain forest.

Sometimes I think back to when we received the gifts and I realize that life had gone completely different from the way I’d imagined it.

    Then again…

Having special abilities does have it’s perks. The yellow and black Camaro ZL1 was evidence of that.

I climbed inside and started the monster mistaken for a car!

She growled like I had poked a stick at a sleeping dragon. Shifting the car into reverse I sped out of Campus and headed for home.

    My home.

I was twenty two years old and married to my high school sweetheart. I know that sounds sad but unlike most relationships that fizzle out when the real world begins, we just got closer.

The fact that she is so freaking hot helps a lot too! We’ve been married for just over a year and with Nicholas safely behind bars, life is as normal as it has ever been for the first time, since we came back from Rome.

My dad still stays in our big house on Carew Ave, with Avalanche as his only company. He has a few lady friends but no one serious enough for him to wanna settle down again. My own opinion is that he doesn’t wanna put himself in the position to give his heart away for a second time with the chance of being hurt, like when my mum died but that’s an opinion I will keep to myself.

After April and I got married we moved as far away from our family as possible but still stayed in Alpena.

We bought a beautiful home over the N 2nd Ave Bridge on the other side of Lake Besser, on West Miller Street near St Mary’s Catholic Church.

I down shifted to fourth and accelerated past ninety around a lorry carrying fresh fruit. Just a ten mile stretch down Werth Rd would get me home.

The window was all the way down and the speakers blaring the sounds of Fall Out Boy’s ‘Irresistable.’

As I nodded my head to the mellow tune I thought back to the days of how this life all began. How Andrew had got in trouble with the hotel manager for skateboarding down the hotel stair rail or when Austin bet me that I couldn’t get the ball through the arm of the priceless statue near the Trevi Fountain.

    And now…

Now I’m the most powerful being on the planet.

I slowed down as the car climbed the curb into my driveway. My house was more a manor with a gravel stone drive that was separated by a thousand square meters of lush green grass on either side. The house was built in three stories with a loft and a balcony overlooking the Besser Lake. The house was built from face brick and cobble stone. Olden day window shutters across all four sides. The double story garage had April’s Z4 and my Chevy Constantia already inside, so I drove the car around the driveway fountain and parked in front of the entrance courtyard.

My house was the type of home you would find on MTV cribs only it was discreet in the sense that you couldn’t see it until you were standing in front of it.

I didn’t want people asking questions, especially people from campus.

Alpena was not the most luxurious town in the world and people here made just enough to live a happy, simple life.

My friends and I were the only kids in Alpena that could afford to go to RCC and that was only because we got a scholarship. A lot of the people who attended Roman City from out of town knew this and seeing my house would make them ask questions that should be avoided by all possible means.

People like Carla! That girl must have been Nancy Drew in a previous life because she doesn’t know when to stop shoving her nose where it’s not wanted.

I climbed the stairs onto the porch and pushed open the heavy front door.

The house smelt like a freshly baked cake had just come out of the oven. In the entrance hall was photos of our wedding and a picture of my mum. On the side table was a small photo frame of all my friends when we were still in high school, wearing that hideous green uniform. Straight down the hall was the entertainment centre. The walls were tiled white half way up with a white and red wall paper which completed the trip to the roof. The floor had oversized white marble tiles and the red pool table and curtains broke the cream. On the white and red suite sat my beautiful wife, watching an episode of Castle on our monster flat screen suspended on the wall.

I could tell immediately that something was wrong when she made eye contact. She smiled at me but was pale as snow. She wore a green dress with a buckle clip and a thin cotton Ed Hardy jacket over.

Her big blue eyes and soft sleek brown hair made my fingertips tingle. Those deep dimples and full lips made me want to kiss her every time we exchanged glances.

April, are you okay love? I asked in concern.

Hey babe, you’re home. How was practice?

Ahh you know the usual. Coach keeps trying to push us further and further. He wants to be the first college coach to have all his first team players land NBA contracts. You didn’t answer my question though… are you alright sweety?

Yeah, yeah! I’m fine babe. Just a little light headed that’s all.

I nodded and gave her a deep long kiss.

    Babe! she whispered.

I looked at her with full intent and attention.

Do you think that our relationship has gone the way you’d always wanted it?

Well no. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I mean there was no way we could have put super powers into our list of things to do.

Okay but besides that stuff. You’re happy, right?

I held her hand for a moment before replying, gazing into her scared yet excited eyes.

From all the gifts God has given me including my abilities… you are the only priceless one. The only gift that I will never be able to live without.

She smiled, wrapping her tiny arms around my neck, inhaling the cologne from my neck as she breathed in.

I had to force myself not to forget that April wasn’t as fragile as I made her out to be. Seven months ago, she took the life of countless soldiers and more importantly, she shot an arrow straight through Eliza’s heart, saving my life in the process.

You are such a Casanova when it comes to words. she whispered. I love you.

I love you too. I replied subtly.

Is that all you wanted to say to me> I probed.

    Oh yeah! I almost forgot… I’m pregnant!

    2

    You’re what! I screamed.

My response startled her like the suspense scene of a scary movie.

She was about to reply but I gripped her in a hug, knocking out her wind. Pulling her away, I kissed her passionately feeling a fuelled firestorm build up inside of me. Like something else was taking over. I gripped her by her waist and lifted her entire body off the ground, wrapping her legs around my hips and carried her on to the couch. I clawed at her Ed Hardy jacket until it was a piece of material that lay on the floor. April’s nails dug through my hair as she tried aimlessly to pull my mouth deeper to hers. She made noises that sounded like she hadn’t eaten in days and there was no need for table manners on this occasion.

I gently lay her body down on the long end of the couch and pulled my jacket and vest over my shoulders, tossing it near the burning fire that was slowly beginning to die.

She began to kiss my neck, down my shoulder, looking for any piece of flesh to warm her lips against.

Her passion was that of a rebellious teenager, as she gave in to her most daring desires.

Her sparkling blue eyes illuminated and burst to life as she felt my body rubbing against hers.

Her ferocity to get naked without second guessing her own thoughts told me her mind was only after the lustful pleasure that came from us being entwined in the dance of making love.

Her eyes rolled frantically to the back of her head as she tried to breathe but struggled to hold a single gasp of air. I touched her moist back, burning with the sweat from her pure ecstasy, as her spine coiled into an arch.

She wanted to say something but she could barely release a whisper.

Making love to April was far from just a physical experience. Being so close to her, having her warm breath pant on my skin made me feel that no matter how bad my life had got, that the trouble I had to endure with the loss of my mum and the anxiousness of not being… well, normal. She just made life feel like it was just as God had intended it to be.

Eventually her body pulled a giant spasm of rhapsody and she collapsed into hyperventilation.

She started to sob with a single tear escaping the corner of her eye.

    Baby, what’s wrong?

She let out another tear but this one was filled with more emotion.

Nothing’s wrong! I’m happy! I’m crying because I’m so incredibly happy. Come here super hero.

She tugged me by the arm until I collapsed beside her, our diaphragms dancing to the same beat.

I used my finger to traced the sweat around her navel.

So inside here is a beating little boy or girl that we created?

She nodded and then it happened.

My body began to shake and my throat croaked as I released an open hydrant of tears down the side of my face.

I thought that my wedding or the day I defeated Nicholas once and for all would be the best day of my life but it wasn’t.

This! Laying here with my wife and my unborn child in the circle of love was the greatest single moment of my entire life.

In less than a year, I would be a father!

There is nothing anyone could ever say that could take this away from me.

Well I was expecting a good response but that was a little eccentric. She replied.

    I giggled.

    Apology accepted.

She rolled her eyes pushing her bare naked body off me, picking her under garments up off the floor.

I think we need to tell our friends." she stated.

Sure babe. When would you like to tell em.

She threw my jeans into my face.

"Get dressed sexy and stop laying there like you’re posing for a Calvin Klein Ad.

I chuckled again but this time, to myself.

    You wanna go now?

    Yeah!

She nodded, using her fingers to fix her hair in the mirror on the wall. She rubbed her thumb under her eye trying to re-align her mascara but her attempt failed, and she grabbed the brush from her makeup bag.

When she caught me staring at her she paused sort of awkwardly.

What! I don’t want our friends to see us arriving after just having crazy sex! Besides if we don’t tell em today, you’re going to go insane and tell em without me.

I agreed with a gestured facial expression.

Good point. Give me ten minutes.

Argh! And they say girls take long to get ready.

I didn’t take as long as she made it out to be. Under the circumstances of what just took place, the ideal thing to do would be to take a shower after all the perspiration I just oozed. While the water splashed off my hair and created roadmaps all the way to my toes I realised that this was my third shower in a matter of ten hours. I really had to work on staying cleaner so this sort of thing didn’t happen.

I chuckled for a short moment but soon after that, I was downstairs grabbing the keys to the Chevy and heading for the garage door.

As we spun out of the driveway I glared back at the Camaro standing outside the front door, hoping April wouldn’t force me to move it into the garage.

So how far or long do you think you are? I asked.

I dunno, I only just started showing this week so I think about two months, maybe?

Cool, so let’s go find out if it’s a boy or girl.

No! I don’t wanna know until she’s born?

She? You seem like you’ve made up your mind already. I teased.

She blushed a fruity red and hid her eyes from mine, which made me smile moving my attention back to the road.

Besides, if I am two months, which I doubt I am because I haven’t been late yet, we still wouldn’t be able to tell what the baby is.

    Why not?

It takes about four to five months before that stuff begins to develop.

Well, I’m hoping for a boy. I teased, hoping I’d get a reaction out of her but I didn’t… she just smiled.

I don’t care what kind of baby we have, as long as she… or HE is healthy.

Do you have any names yet? she asked.

I stared at her with a take a chill pill expression.

I’m sorry! I’m just excited, when I get excited, I sometimes get impatient, so sue me!

Yeah, I remember! Just like when we were getting married, you wanted to shoot the caterer.

And I swear, I would have if you let me.

Last year was a stressful season for April and I. Apart from saving the world and running a manifestation of everyday college, we also had to plan our own wedding. An event that changed April for the better. Before she was shy and fragile, just like her appearance. She had the appearance of a damsel in distress but since the wedding, she’s evolved!

April learnt how to take charge. She built up her own confidence and no longer needed an extra shoulder to lean on. If anything, the wedding made her more independent.

I don’t have any names yet babes. I think, my mind will give the perfect name when the time is right.

April leaned her hand across my head and tickled my hair with her fingernails.

We parked the car out on the main street and entered the side entrance to the abandoned burnt down warehouse. The warehouse was originally built with red brick and wooden windowsills. But you couldn’t tell that anymore from the burnt char that remained after the fire.

The entire building was abandoned and covered in dirt and had ash both on the walls and floor. April and I arrived at the wooden shaft elevator which we climbed into and slid closed behind us. Before she pulled down on the lever I reached in and gave her one final kiss.

"This is it! I’m nervous but really excited.’ I admitted

Good! So now you know how I felt when I had to prepare telling you!

The elevator dropped down to the Basement but the sound of the giant wooden box being lowered was drowned out by the loud sounds of an action or thriller movie.

The Basement was our headquarters but actually, it was more a personal space given to us for when we wanted to be away from the world.

After Revelation was formed, the UN gave us this headquarters as a gift. A
